Opposite. It's REALLY old. Some even say it's where tu originated.
We were TAMC (a college) so they just called themselves The University because they're pretentious *****s.

They are called texas university because that is how they referred to themselves, just like University of Oklahoma and University of Kansas called themselves OU and KU. This was common at the time, and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is lying. OU and KU still refer to themselves this way.

This is misinformation in several parts. They are called texas university because that is how they referred to themselves, just like University of Oklahoma and University of Kansas called themselves OU and KU. This was common at the time, and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is lying. OU and KU still refer to themselves this way.
As for the "The University" part, the emphasis on that didn't start until the '80s, I think in response to our student population explosion. We are Texas A&M University, they wanted to differentiate themselves as THE university in Texas, so they started emphasizing 'the university'. They then tried to claim tu was an acronym for 'the university' hen we all know it means 'texas university', but sips are slow to give up on propaganda.
YouBet said:SF County voted 85% for Biden and Travis County voted 71% for Biden so SF is still dumber than Austin by 14 points. Austin gaining ground though.EX TEXASEX said:People like to bad mouth Austin and say it is just like San Francisco. Which is absolutely not true.Legal Custodian said:
I haven't been there in about 4 years, has it really got to be as bad as people say? Like others have said, 10-15 years ago I would go down there multiple times a year and it definitely had a little bit of homeless population but still a fun downtown scene.
If you really compare the two cities it is only like 85% -90% like S.F.
Can't wait till we get an app for avoiding turds in street /on the side walks /parks. Then I will know we have hit the big time elite status of Big City Liberal **** Holes. You can do it Austin !!! Si se whatever.

I don't know of any schools outside the Big 8 that did that
OU, KU, CU, NU
Not saying you're wrong. Just never personally heard Texas call themselves Texas University
