If Russia backs Massoud, they will turn out a better actor than we for those left behind.

They apparently have multiple factions but operate under a leadership council on which each is represented, and it looks like political influence within that leadership council determines "policy", but I suspect top-down control is limited.

Yep.

We have one option.

We must actively defend the airport perimeter. Give people a waring to leave the airport perimeter and then enforce a no go zone.

Cover the hills with air power and get the eff out. No more American soldiers need to suffer there. The biden admin gave up the remaining civilians. Don't make our soldiers and Marines casualties as well.

Theres a lot more assets than just the carriers. We have aircraft in places that are much closer than people think. We have enough assets to protect the perimeter if needed

It's not to late to clear the area around the airport. We have apaches and little birds at the airport. How else do you make sure there isn't anyone you don't want hanging around except to clear all out?
