Like was mentioned above, it is normal to charge for these types of flights for civilians flying on DoD aircraft. Last year when State was evacuating AMCITS from countries closed off due to COVID, they were charged in the same manner. This is part of the risk associated with working in these types of countries. Not ideal I agree, and yes BIG difference between the two scenarios. On the plus side, the companies should pay for the flights.

Even dropping that notice and going through with promissory notes for this situation is absurd.

That's not quite the only difference here. The other distinction is that the .gov royally screwing their exit is why these people now have to use the government exfil flights. Had this been handled competently they likely could have leisurely flown out on commercial airlines.

The Taliban doesn't engage in child rape? The Taliban are the good guys?

This narrative has been thrown around a lot lately. That doesn't make it accurate.

There were some bad people who we were allied with. That doesn't make everyone operating on our side evil.

In World War II, we were allied with Josef Stalin, Ho Chi Minh, Mao Zedong, and several others who one would not classify as the cream of the crop in terms of sainthood. Did that make fighting Hitler and Imperial Japan unnecessary?

Last time I checked, no one within the Northern Alliance shielded Al-Qaeda and provided "The Base" with a base to attack and kill thousands of our countrymen.

That was the Taliban.

Almost 20 years later...and we have a President actually allying himself to the Taliban and trusting them with the safe conduct of Americans to Karzai International to be safely evacuated.

You are kidding yourself if you believe this rhetoric of a virtuous Taliban has a shred of truth in it.

If it were true, then why do we see Afghan women giving their children, especially their girls, to American soldiers and our allies for safe conduct elsewhere?
