Sports Illustrated has changed hands multiple times in recent years and cut their staff down to a skeleton crew. They won't be with us much longer. Crap like this will just accelerate the inevitable.

Alternatively maybe they can be the first magazine for trans sports or obese athletes. May be looking to find a niche in a market where they have been left behind.
