I will always be a Ted Cruz supporter, but have given up hope of him ever getting the nod.

I would choose Trump over DeSantis. DeSantis would still be a nobody if not for Trump.
We need Cruz's voice in the Senate.
He has the opportunity to be there for 2 to 4 more decades. I hope he stays.
I hope every single one of them are kicked out and replaced with non establishment types. Serving a lifetime in the senate should NOT be an option.
Well, how do you feel about Senators that would vote themselves out of office with term limits at the first chance they get. Is it OK for them to stick around?
No exceptions. There needs to be term limits. Those who vote to remove themselves in this way will go down as heros.
Yeah, we are saying the same thing, I think. I want Cruz to stay in the senate until he legislates himself out of the senate with term limits, regardless of how long that takes.

I'd support Cruz in that effort but I doubt he would ever bring it up. The current group of senators do not care about any of us; they "serve" to enrich themselves and do just enough to keep getting re-elected.

I'd pick just about anybody on this forum; it doesn't matter. We don't need political elites to tell us how to run the country. Mom and Pop business owner is far better than most of the current crop of senators in making sure we make ends meet.
So a Democrat?

Democrats and republicans are the same. I'd vote for any non establishment candidate. I might even entertain some sort of jury duty system where people are forced to serve or something. People who want to be politicians are generally ****heads who want to line their pockets.

Obviously doomed from the beginning, but, he did at least "bring it up". Not the first time he has, either.

I'll continue to support him as long as he keeps bringing this to the table.

I think Cruz is an interesting guy (and I've voted for him multiple times). Most of these discussions are pie in the sky talks anyways until the average American decides to get involved in politics in a more substantial way than voting every 2 years.

I think it might be interesting to have a jury duty type system which would offer a salary to cover time spent serving and then perhaps making them exempt for paying taxes after service is complete. There would be no way to volunteer to serve unless you were selected at random jury duty style. The pool who would qualify for this jury duty selection would be tax paying citizens only.

I've always thought that congress is two years because they were afraid that otherwise no one would serve. Go server for a couple years then come back home and do what you do.

I think the current term lengths are fine provided they are limited to a single term. We need a way to prevent an establishment from forming. We need to get corporate cash and foreign donations out of the picture as well. None of this is likely to happen but perhaps after the crash one of the rebuild nations can adopt such a system.

Senators are smart people. Very smart.

I don't want some guy that has spent his last 20 years playing call of duty while smoking weed on his mom's couch every evening after a grueling day working the counter at Gamestop to be a senator.

The general idea of being voluntold is kinda neat, but we need qualified people in there. Knowing about the legal system is a huge plus, obviously.

DeSantis. It's not about who YOU like. It's about who can win.

White women will vote for DeSantis. They won't vote for Trump.

Blue collar Democrats across the midwest and PA will cross over and vote for Trump in huge numbers. I think that's how you win in 24.

Not sure DeSantis can pull off that trick yet.

I love them both tho.

I believe that the Virginia governor's race results demonstrate that to win the suburbs and the vote of most women, the Republicans need to run someone other than Trump. DeSantis, IMHO, is the clear choice.

The only thing that has EVER worked at doing this is federalism.

You have to shrink the size of the public trust. That way, the graft becomes less profitable.

Move 90% of tax expenditure decisions and government regulation of business out of DC and into the hands of state and local governments. Any rules you put in place will just be gamed by smart people that spend all of their life scheming with ways to game the rules.

I really see no benefit the federal government provides me. All they do is extract taxes from me and waste it in limitless ways that provide zero benefit to me. The "United States" is almost a meme at this point. We need to take the power from the feds and give that back to the states. The Anti Federalists where spot on with their predictions.

MSM, NPR, and most others continue to beat the drum on Jan 6 and how close we all were to falling into a Nicaraguan type authoritarian regime. They refuse to talk about Trump's policies and how much better they were for American than Biden's.

I don't believe there is anyway for Trump to get a decent part of middle America to vote for him in a general election. The sooner the GOP can move on with new candidates with more appeal to the uneducated masses the better.
