"RICHMOND, Va. (AP) One of two police officers accused of pepper-spraying and pointing their guns at a Black Army officer during a traffic stop has since been fired, a Virginia town announced late Sunday, hours after the governor called for an independent investigation into the case.

The town of Windsor said in a statement that it joined calls from election officials, including Gov. Ralph Northam, in requesting an investigation by Virginia State Police into the December 2020 encounter in which two Windsor officers were accused of drawing their guns, pointing them at U.S. Army second lieutenant Caron Nazario and using a slang term to suggest he was facing execution."

For wanting to go home that night, and then giving the idiot a break, the guy gets fired?
No need to defund the police when no one will risk going into law enforcement.

Hopefully they get a sane jury when this hustler takes it to trial and they tell him to pound sand.

Or maybe he violated department policy and got fired for being a dip****.

Quote:

After the altercation, the suit says that officer Gutierrez said he understood why Nazario looked for a lighted place to pull over, and said: "I get it, the media spewing race relations between law enforcement and minorities. I get it."

He should be fired regardless for demonstrating such a complete lack of self and situational awareness.

"I get why you pulled into a well lit area off the side of the highway. It's because the media makes cops like me out to be an ***hole. Let's just ignore me not using any level of critical thought, pulling a gun on you, and pepper spraying you while you had your arms in the air outside your window. It's not like I just completely validated every bad thing, 'the media,' says about cops."

Yeah. It's the media's fault for making you seem like a jackass. I can't imagine why some people have such low opinions of cops.

You get what you give. Cops go into every situation assuming the worst about the people they're pulling over. Now those people go into every situation assuming the worst about the cops pulling them over.

This guy drove further then the cop wanted and never exited or rolled down the window because he didn't feel safe. Totally different outcome

I think the LT probably wanted to go home too. Is that ok? I don't see why it's ok for the officer to behave irrationally an extra cautious because he wants to go home but the driver has the burden of perfect behavior.

The LT did get home, just a half hour late because he acted like a jerk. The police did not cite him because as veterans they knew that the charges could hurt his military career. Then the ungrateful fool sues the officer.

Had the LT pulled a gun and shot the policeman and pulled away, it wouldn't be nearly as newsworthy. And that would be alright with you?

Yes, if you are stopped you have the burden to be respectful and to obey the police commands.
HTownAg98

The cops also threatened Nazario with more charges if he reported them. You left that minor detail out.
BuddysBud
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The officer gave him a choice. Actually, the choice was given by office's supervisor.
They can let him go, or charges for improperly displaying the license plate and resisting arrest could be written up, if he wanted. That way he could have his day in court. "That is your right as a citizen."
That was not a threat. It was an offer.

Instead the jerk took the offer to not be charged or ticketed and then turned around to sue the cops.

Mr Nazario is the bigger jerk in this story.

So he's not supposed to sue the cops when he thought his constitutional rights have been violated? What kind of boot-licking thinking is that?

I'm sure the Biden Army will support the poor dumb LT, but I will take some solace that at least he will be forced to attend a lot of training/watch powerpoints/pay a price in safety briefings.

Oh, and a new Tahoe is not cheap, it's ludicrous for a butter bar making 40K/year to finance a new one (they start at $50K I believe). Typical moron car decision. His HBCU degree really hasn't made him a responsible adult/soldier, to no surprise (Virginia State). Lead, follow, or get out of the way; I can't see this guy ever taking the first option.

Yes, the cops behaved stupidly as well. But driving for 100 seconds before pulling over, refusing to get out of the car with a gun at your thigh? The cops, who I am sure will somehow be charged, should just say they were worried it was some sort of January 6th type of conspirator in a uniform (also, he looks like he has a beer gut).

The dip**** refused to get out of the car after being told what seemed like 100 times! "what is going on", "why am I being stopped", "I'm not getting out of the car:", "why you treating a serviceman this way" (like they know you're in the service!), etc, etc... Get your ass out of the car, jackhole! The cops stopped what they believed to be a potential criminal and his completely obstinate, idiotic response escalated the situation.

The media's narrative on cops interacting with the black community is based on lies. Michael Brown and George Floyd, the most famous incidents, were criminals engaged in criminal activity which precipitated the interaction! For you to imply that the media has shown even a sliver of accuracy when painting the pic of the current state of police/black community interactions is ridiculous. I'm sorry that blacks are buying into lies, but the police are under no obligation to risk their lives because they do.

Are there a-hole cops, yeah. I've dealt with many. But in this case, had the Lt gotten out of the car like he was told, we would not be talking about this. It's not illegal or against policy to pull a gun on a potential suspect. If it is, please enlighten me.

This looks to be a social justice firing to me. Until I hear more about the reason behind the firing, that's my take.

Even as a cadet, I was aware of a "command voice". It amazes me that this guy, in addition to refusing to answer questions or follow orders, is sitting there mumbling to the cops.

I get that he's pissed. But to sit there chewing your gum, saying 'what's going on?' to repeated orders, is pretty damn dumb.

"How many on the vehicle?"

"JUST ME! LT. NAZARINO, FROM THE BASE!"

"Step out of the car!"

"I STILL HAVE MY SEAT BELT ON, IS IT OKAY WITH YOU TO UNDO IT?"

Not, "chew...chew...chew....what's goin' on?"

What does the gun have to do with anything? Justification for a felony stop? Sure, I'll give you that. He never went for it, and when he was asked if he had any weapons, he told them exactly where it was. It must not have been that big a deal because he was never charged for having a gun.

Simple possession of a firearm does absolutely nothing to indicate criminal activity is afoot. This is a media driven myth.

However...

There are several screen shots now showing no tag, plate etc at all.
Was the firearm his? Or was it stolen?

Night time
Dark window tint
No plates
Drove slow to a lighted area = high risk stop

Love how this is spun at racism.

With the tail lights on, this shot doesn't, and no shot will, indicate whether there was a tag in the back window. You wouldn't be able to see it because it would be blown out. It's the same reason you don't see stars in pictures of the earth from the moon, or why it's harder to see anything in the dark if you're looking at your phone with the brightness turned all the way up as opposed to having or turned all the way down.

He wasn't charged for that, but it was the reason for the stop

He probably was supposed to have the plates on the outside, instead, he had them behind heavily tinted glass, which made them nearly invisible

Go around at night with no plates, cops are going to get suspicious

"Be chill and we'll take the cuffs off and you can go home."
By your own accounting, they had at least three reasons to place him under arrest, and yet they chose not to. Curious as to why they just dropped everything.

From the video, a dealer plate was in the window but couldn't be seen through the tint.
Apparently in VA even a paper dealer plate needs to be in the plate holder.

Since he had a plate, just posted incorrectly, they left it at a verbal warning.
CanyonAg77

I realize the lighting makes the plates hard to see in the pic. It's also possible they are hard to see in real life. I wonder if VA law requires them outside, or if behind tinted glass is acceptable

They explain it in the video just after your quote. Nothing curious about it. The police officers wanted to give the guy a break.
Curious that people cannot appreciation that police officers can do something nice. Maybe you should be upset that two veterans gave an active duty soldier special treatment once he quit acting like a jerk and started complying with their requests.
