And of course, Rusty trying to get an anti-gun comment from the Bryan police chief.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

I have a bit of information on this:

  • The suspect was fired from Kent Moore about three weeks ago for bringing a firearm to work. He was not happy about the firing and made sure everyone knew he was disgruntled.
  • He just opened the door and started shooting - no declarations made.
  • Three brothers work there together. One (oldest) just happened to be the first person at the door and is in pretty bad shape. Youngest brother gets shot - middle brother jumps in and rushes youngest to hospital as he's calling 911.
  • They think it could be two people involved but there's a lot of speculation and wild rumors right now.

Mad because he can't bring a firearm to work, so he shoots everyone at work? That will help his cause.
Since this is the politics board I'll just add this...this is a perfect example of why having a no firearms at work policy is the wrong policy. The suspect went there with no fear of being shot back at, as he now clearly knows no one onsite is carrying a firearm. Once again, when are people going to learn that criminals don't care about your no-gun policy. Versus, if that same guy knew, or even suspected, there were several people at the site that actively carried, would he have gone in gun's a blazzin, and if he did, would he have made it far enough to then shoot an officer in the face an hour later?

Could be a pistol if he was a decent shot, but from the picture that I seen of the troopers vehicle, I'd bet it was a semi auto rifle. If so, that'll just help ol' Joe with his agenda.

I carry a gun at work for situations just like these. My Glock keeps me warm during the days until it's time to get frosty. You try to take my life with a gun, I'll call you and go all in.

The pic of the trooper vehicle with the outstanding groups is likely return fire from the trooper.

Very true, let's hope so. I'm not even sure why that didn't cross my mind. Sounds like he's in stable condition and was talking before going into surgery. Hearing that he was possibly shot in the eye. Still early though.

BPD Chief says it was likely a handgun, at least in Bryan.

Officer asked what kind of weapon. Witnesses say it was a "AK" style weapon for whatever it is worth.

As noted, chief says handgun. So yeah, as usual, "witnesses" have no clue what they're saying in regards to style of weapon. Or they have ulterior motives. Or both/all guns bad!

Blaming a no gun policy is just as bad as blaming people having guns.

Why would they know he is carrying a gun, if he is just carrying it for protection?
He chooses to kill and go to prison, or die, because they didn't want to know he was carrying the gun?

He has the benefit of knowing they will be unarmed. Pretty obvious why so many shooters target "gun free zones"

That's the damndest part of it.

Either
1) you carry at work and nobody ever knows until you need it
2) you ask if you're allowed to and get denied
Or
3) you're not the type of person anyone wants to be around with a firearm and likely got discovered carrying at work because you did something stupid.

So why did the killer pick the Cinemark theater? You might think that it was the one closest to the killer's apartment. Or, that it was the one with the largest audience.

Yet, neither explanation is right. Instead, out of all the movie theaters within 20 minutes of his apartment showing the new Batman movie that night, it was the only one where guns were banned. In Colorado, individuals with permits can carry concealed handgun in most malls, stores, movie theaters, and restaurants. But private businesses can determine whether permit holders can carry guns on their private property.

My theory:

Suspect takes gun to work and flashes it, whether unintentionally or intentionally, whether to show off or to establish dominance during an altercation. Co-worker turns him in and he gets fired. He is pissed , not because he was fired, but because he got snitched on, and returns in rage on the people who turned him in.

If so, that would be exactly why not a `mass shooting' in the way people think of, or there is any point trying to prevent. It is a sense of entitlement or drugs that drives that kind of revenge violence.

A bomb has to be ignited somehow. I guess his fuse wasn't ignited until sometime after he was fired.

As far as the gun free zone, that may have later played into his thought process as to why he would shoot there.

ETA: The guy is obviously insane, so I don't think it's any surprise that his employer found out he was carrying. He is not the sane, law-abiding concealed carrier that one would expect to keep it unknown to those around them (or their employer in this case).

100% speculation here...

If the guy was messed up in the head enough to do this, I wouldnt want him working next to me with a firearm either. If it was Johnny good ol boy, he mightve got off with a dont bring it back. Instead it was Carl Crazy Pants and he got fired for it.

Just guessing company policy may not have been the only reason nutty guy with a gun got canned.
