This whole thing was, without doubt, simply an unfortunate situation.

It's too bad that the rioters next month won't care.

He knows he is overdosing and is freaking out. So stupid he would rather die trying to get out of an arrest for suspected forgery than tell the cops he swallowed too many drugs.

As said earlier stop trying to rationalize his thought process. He's high. We'll never know what was going through his head, but I seriously doubt he knows he OD'd. *stated as a non-medical professional

Wonder if anyone on the jury hadn't seen this whole video before and if it will change their opinion.

To note, the MRT used is "similar to" the one in the MPD training manual. The police chief has said that officers are not trained to place their knee on a suspect's neck. Both him and the training officer are supposed to testify so I imagine they will better clarify how Chauvin's restraint differentiates from the one employed by Chauvin. From a local new link:

Quote:

The training materials specify: "the maximal restraint technique shall only be used in situations where handcuffed subjects are combative and still pose a threat to themselves, officers or others, or could cause significant damage property if not properly restrained."

The slide that includes the photo states that officers should "Place the subject in the recovery position to alleviate positional asphyxia."

MPD Chief Medaria Arradondo has said in interviews and press conferences following the death of George Floyd that officers are not trained to place their knee on a suspect's neck like Chauvin did to Floyd.

An MPD spokesperson, when asked about the training materials Wednesday, said they have been advised not to comment about the open court proceedings and could not say any more on the topic.
Also, it wasn't "by the book" as they denied the recovery position. I believe Lane asks Chauvin - twice - if they should place Floyd in the recovery position and each time Chauvin said no.

People that do drugs regularly know the effects, particularly different types and quantities. He might not have known he was overdosing, but he could connect the dots between 1/4, 1/2 and what would happen if he took a full hit for example.

He did the same thing when he was arrested in May of the previous year. Calling for his Mama etc. But the jury may not seen the video of that arrest as it stands now.

This footage is damning for the police. Floyd is dead here.

I don't know if any of you have watched a person die, but my dad died of lung cancer and I had to watch after we removed the ventilator. It was horrific and his body still moved for a while after he was clearly dead. He would still gasp for air after he was gone.

This clip will be what gets Chauvin on manslaughter unless the defense can pull off a miracle.

If that's the case, as it appears, why didn't they get off of him once he was subdued and cuffed? Was it necessary to stay on him for that long?

Yep. The defense will need to pull off a miracle.

The medical experts will have to testify that it was the drugs that killed Floyd and that the timing of the knee on the neck was just coincidence.

I think it's damning because he was clearly unconscious and potentially dead (this may be hindsight being 20/20, to be fair) several minutes before they let off his neck.

His movements reminded me of someone dying. They didn't look premeditated or faked.

Again murder is out, but the defense has some work to do on manslaughter.

Ok, that's what the cuffs are for.

I just cant see any justification for the length of time unless they were trying to get him to pass out but not die, which almost certainly is not police protocol.

I agree Floyd was in the wrong to resist like that, but cops are trained to handle this kind of stuff...

Can someone explain this to me? I thought the overzealous murder charges meant they couldn't get him on manslaughter.. im guessing I'm incorrect here.
