Disfunction in Congress. Immigration and National Security (and also taxation/budget) are almost the explicit purpose of Congress and yet they are incapable of acting or legislating in any mature, forward thinking manner on behalf of the people. Lots of promises and finger-pointing but little action. Instead Congress cedes power to the other branches and then *****es and complains about how authoritarian the other side is acting. Thus sowing seeds of discontent and distrust in government. This has been going for decades and is why we continue to get the same GIGO Congresspeople term after term

Eta: basically it's easier for Congress to blame, the other side, whoever the Potus may be, or even Scotus, instead of going to work and drafting legislation for the people. They're good money raisers for their political parties though!!

That's not correct. Obama completely ignored immigration law with DACA and DAPA. Biden said he would halt all deportations for 90 days. Which part of the immigration act allows that? Dems basically do what they want, law be damned. So tell me again about congress passing laws to deal with immigration. If a law is passed and ignored, what good is it?

Also, banning immigration/travel from certain countries as far as national security must be allowed and performed at the executive level because of threats that may quickly arise. Having to pass a law each time doesn't make sense.

The Republic is over.

Maybe you misunderstand me. Congress is the Legislative branch of government and yet does not legislate any meaningful policy. They have de facto authorized the potus to sign EOs to do the bill writing they cannot get passed. And they complain about the power and authoritarian response of the Executive branch. Its no surprise the use of EOs has increased as Congress has become more disfunctional and partisan. Maybe its a feature of the partisanship, not a bug.

We shouldn't have executive orders being used the way they are, but I'm also ok with congress doing nothing, unless they agree enough to pass legislation. We've got enough crap regulations on the books. If congress can't agree on enough on something to pass it, maybe it should be left to the states.
