Yes, there were dozens! Dozens! ...maybe, of people who convinced themselves they were going to bust into the capitol and convince congress that Trump should be the real winner. They were play acting that they were saving the Republic from the corrupt deep state or whatever. I'm sure that they drew motivation from Trump's refusal to concede and complaints about fraud, but I also don't see where he directed the crowd to attack the capitol building and subdue congress. As if that would be all it would take, even if they had succeeded somehow.
They successfully, but only temporarily, shut down the process of certifying electors to select the next President.

It was a coup attempt. It was a stupid one (it involved Trump supporters, so there was no other option but for it to be stupid) and an eventual failure (again, Trump), but it temporarily succeeded in its purpose, which was the overthrow of government authority.

It was a coup attempt.
i know you really really really really want to believe this - but it simply isn't accurate for anyone with a functioning brain.

#RESIST

That was the hashtag parroted by millions on the left when Trump won the 2016 election. Employees of the executive branch loyal to Obama used that as motivation to leak conversations to the press, select their agenda over the POTUS on foreign and domestic policy, etc. Coup.

A bogus Russian investigation with Special Counsel based on Democrat lies cooked up to remove Trump from office or at best delegitimize him. Coup.

Democrat members of Congress including the Squad, Pelosi, Waters, Swalwell, Adam Schiff, Nadler, Schumer, etc all participated in the resist movement, encouraging supporters to take action against Trump and his supporters and encouraging/abetting a bogus whistleblower to report on Trump's phone call to try to fabricate an impeachable offense. Coup.

Pelosi last week contacting the military leadership about removing Trump's CiC powers. Coup.

Republicans need to hire the Night people who can loot and steal successfully to play in this game. Most voters honor corruption. I hung around with enough of them to know it is a BIG mass of the real rich ones and they get the dummies to swallow real hard.
Good luck America.

Our forefathers would have hung most of congress and all corrupt judges years ago for some of the stuff they have done and allowed. When there is a real coup attempt you'll know it. But this stuff wasn't close.

And besides, a little revolution now and again is a good thing... no?

Yeah, you could call it a coup attempt, but with a really low bar for what counts.
I know, which is why I did. A lame coup attempt by mentally and emotionally disturbed idiots. Also a selfie opportunity for another type of idiot. All mixed into a stew of stupidity.

A failure. A joke. An embarrassment. No plan. No organization. No understanding of how government works. No vision. No coherence.

All of that describes both the coup attempt and Donald Trump himself.

Sounds like a run of the mill riot.

I'd agree with you right up until you got to Ripping on trump for not knowing how government works. For all the crap he caught for 4 solid years from the "resist" movement, he got an awful lot done for not knowing how to do anything. What he doesn't seem to know is how to play politics without getting bent out of shape, and how to deal with losing once the legal options are played out.

So you are saying 300 mostly unarmed, poorly organized rioters is a coup attempt? Wow. That would have to be the lamest "coup attempt" in human history

I thought coups were conducted by several thousand highly trained, well armed operatives or a military overthrow.

Any idea how dumb this sounds.
Where'd you get that # from? Looked like a LOT more than 300......

Do you really need me to hold your hand and guide you to a browser and search all the judges nominated and approved, the trade deals signed, the reckless treaties made by previous administrations withdrawn from, the regulations revised, pared down, slashed, the VA hospital system improvements, the improvements to the national parks system, the proper funding of historical black colleges, the leniency towards long term drug convictions, the extensive rebuilding and proper budgeting of the military, etc, etc. His administration was doing a lot while the Dems were flinging poop at Trump's tweets.

The Senate was evacuated only one minute before they arrived at the chambers. There were plenty of feckless LARPers roaming around, but there were enough serious actors that this was extremely close to being a catastrophe..
So just what is it you think would have happened?

With a number of them running around with zip ties ready to restrain people, I bet they would have taken prisoners. And there was reportedly talk about killing people.

Possible, but just because they have an item, does not mean they intended to use it much less in the way you are describing. See every peaceful armed protest ever.

The coup attempt was by the Democrats, led by President Obama and Vice President Biden, who weaponized the FBI on the basis of nothing more than since-debunked opposition research, paid for by the Clinton campaign, to spy on their political rival, then used the access gained by that spying to justify a witch hunt that resulted in a failed impeachment attempt.

What the OP wrote is hysteria. What I wrote is established fact, even if the industrial tech/entertainment complex won't report it.

They erected a gallows outside the Capitol and shouted "Hang Mike Pence". Trump needs to be arrested and tried for Treason.

Well, sure.

There's nothing about the definition of "coup" that involves efficacy, organization, or optics. A coup is an overthrow of government power.

1/6 was an attempted coup. It was laughable, but some of the people storming in there explicitly wanted to stop Congress from certifying the Electoral votes that would formally elect a new President. That is attempting a coup, regardless of how dumb, ineffective, or disorganized the participants were.

A lot of the people storming the Capitol weren't even thinking that much, they were just flowing with emotion and herd instincts. Many people suffer consequences for doing things without thinking them through.

Quote:

By that definition, there was no "insurrection" at the United States Capitol on Jan. 6, according to the FBI. Reuters reports:
Quote:

The FBI has found scant evidence that the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was the result of an organized plot to overturn the presidential election result, according to four current and former law enforcement officials.

"Ninety to ninety-five percent of these are one-off cases," said a former senior law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation. "Then you have five percent, maybe, of these militia groups that were more closely organized. But there was no grand scheme with Roger Stone and Alex Jones and all of these people to storm the Capitol and take hostages."
