Isn't McCarthy a nobody right now?

This reeks of desperation.

Hey guys? I'm having a little trouble tracking down how a guy named Ron Raffensperger may be related to Sec of State Brad Raffensperger?

Could use some help in either direction, he is or he isn't. Ron works Huawei and lives in China, member of the Lincoln Project, virulent never-Trumper and seems very interested in what's going on in Georgia judging by his twitter.

Can I get an assist, please?

Confusing. At the 28 minute mark.

while an unusual name and interesting that Ron works for a huge CCP company, it seems unlikely.
not seeing that they are sibling in any sort of search

Ron is ~5 years older, but Brad went to school in Canada (born there?) and Ron ISU.

they don't resemble each other either

Thanks. I didn't see the resemblance either but the name is unique enough to check given Ron's high profile as a Never Trumper.

Maybe that's why AZ was not included in the suit by the State of Texas? Perhaps? So much is going on it is hard to keep up. Getting pretty tired of reading 100+ page court filings though.
As one of many on here that don't speak legal mumbo jumbo I certainly appreciate your summaries and opinions. I hope you will have another cup o joe and carry on.

One would think that these groups attempting to register his dead son would prompt a more urgent response from Raffensperger. Also, noticed he's made over $25 million through the construction firm that he owns. Might be worth a cursory check in to the stakeholders on some of his firm's larger projects.

Quote:

In one instance, a group that's been highly praised by the mainstream media tried to register his own dead son to vote. Democrat Stacey Abrams' group, The New Georgia Project, was founded in 2014 prior to her run for governor against Brian Kemp, WGCL-TV reports.

"Here's something that came to my house yesterday, we got three of them, all from the same organization and it's to my son Brenton J. Raffensperger who passed away two years ago," the secretary of state said.

Quote:

Act 77 added extensive new sections to the Election Code, which distinguished between absentee and mail-in electors and provided procedures for the latter. See, e.g., 25 P.S. 2602(z.6), 3150.11-3150.17. Indeed, the Election Code repeatedly distinguishes between "mail-in" and "absentee" voting and regulates each category differently, including in defining a qualified mail-in versus absentee elector and in regulating servicemember absentee ballots. See 25 P.S. 2602 (defining "qualified mail-in elector"); 25 P.S. 3146.7 (regulating military servicemember ballots). The legislative history of Act 77 confirms that the General Assembly understood itself to be creating a form of voting distinct from absentee ballots.

So something all together different from absentee ballots, sure thing. Just in case though - absentee ballots aren't restricted to the reasons given in the constitution...

Quote:

In fact, the Pennsylvania Constitution originally said "may" and now says "shall" in Article VII, 14a change meant to further clarify that this provision provides a floor, not a ceiling, for absentee voting in Pennsylvania. See, e.g., Mathews v. Paynter, 752 F. App'x 740, 744 (11th Cir. 2018) (distinguishing "shall" from "may" and noting that former term does not impliedly limit government authority). Thus, the Pennsylvania Constitution provides that the General Assembly must allow voters in the enumerated four categories to cast absentee ballots, but may also go furtherby exercising its broad power to "prescribe()" the permissible "method(s)" of voting, PA. CONST. art. VII, 4and allow other categories of voters to vote by mail, including by allowing any voter to opt to cast a mail-in ballot.

Also state says laches is state law (not for SCOTUS review) and of course lack of plaintiff's standing.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court gives the Democrats power to never lose another election in that state again. Big surprise.

It's such a great idea to let those who are too lazy to vote in person decide the victor in elections.

Texas sues Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin

Quote:

Texas argues that these states violated the Electors Clause of the Constitution because they made changes to voting rules and procedures through the courts or through executive actions, but not through the state legislatures. Additionally, Texas argues that there were differences in voting rules and procedures in different counties within the states, violating the Constitution's Equal Protection Clause. Finally, Texas argues that there were "voting irregularities" in these states as a result of the above.

State claims:

1. Mail-in ballots are not actually absentee ballots.
2. Even if they were, PA Constitution doesn't actually restrict absentee ballots to the 4 reasons actually stated in the constitution.
3. Laches used by PA SC to dismiss case is a state law question applied correctly and not subject to federal court review.
4. No standing by plaintiffs (I didn't really bother trying to understand this argument).

Mark Finchem issued a call to withhold the state's Electoral College votes for Joe Biden because "he believes there is enough significant evidence of fraud to invalidate the state's votes." Shouldn't other states, such as those that decided to band together early on in the investigation, do the same? Why just Texas? Or did I miss where other states are suing swing states, just the same?

I did a little digging too.

I have conflicting reports on Brad's history.

You probably found this:
Brad Raffensperger (born May 18, 1955) is an American politician and civil engineer from the state of Georgia. A Republican, he serves as Secretary of State of Georgia. He previously served in the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 50.
Born
1955-05-18
Education
University_of_Western_Ontario

Other articles show this

Raffensperger earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Western University and a Master of Business Administration from Georgia State University.

I found no link between the two yet but other people are asking the same questions on other online forums.

I am not an attorney, but it seems to me with the Texas case on the horizon it wasn't necessary to hear this case. I wouldn't think you would want to hear this case alone and incidentally set precedent for the other pending cases. But what do I know.

I'm so confused on the court cases. Is this PA case separate than the Alito one?

Edit: NM the original PA case about deadlines hasn't been thrown out
