Actually, not exactly.

Trump was the first that wasn't useless since Reagan. You have a point earlier.

But its not even about "one for the team" any more. Its a choice between socialism/eventual marxism and capitalism now. There is no middle because of the stance of the Left.

After hearing some of yalls suggestions and further discussing with some older colleagues, I will give my vote to trump. At this point I think the election is more than just about the presidency, more the future of this nation. While I still have my libertarian views, I understand the need for Trump.
Trump pulled out of the Paris Accord. That's an extremely libertarian thing.

As is fixing the ridiculous Title IX campus sexual assault nonsense.

Trump would've been better if he kept up the narrative about the federal reserve but he likes to tout the statistics as it props him up.

Libertarians need to start running as libertarians in city councils and state senator/rep positions before trying to scale up to the national level.

Libertarians are never going to get what they want as an independent party. They should create a libertarian caucus within the GOP and work to create a working block to help move the party more in that direction. I would be for that. The Democrats have a Progressive Caucus why can't the Republicans have a libertarian one. I think you will make far more gains that way than constantly bashing your heads against the wall every election cycle.
This is why I like Rand Paul and Thomas Massie.

They are "play the game" republican libertarians.

Ron Paul didn't always "play the game" and I think Rand believes he has to play the game somewhat to get wins every now and then.

Thomas Massie refuses to wear a mask since he has antibodies and is donating plasma. He's a boss.

Part of the reason for our current predicament is Libertarian policies. How do you see a summer full of rioting and still think a little social conservatism isn't in order? You think more liberty to do drugs and sleep around is going to lead to LESS 2020?

You are entitled to your opinion. I respect McCain. Trump, not so much. And, I will add, that his choices for cabinet members(and especially Barr) have been mostly disappointing.

So you prefer globalism?
Thomas Jefferson: "When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." "I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery."

And don't have exceedingly crazy antics at conventions under the national camera eye.

You actually came close last round --- had the immigration border position been right wing in tone, and had a GOPE-E won the nomination.

The key is going to be to distance from the more Democrat side of the spectrum. They control most of the institutions, so some over-compensating is going to be needed for a while.

Its the youth that are your main problem --- even if it seems shallow, you have to run someone charismatic. With campus quality sunk to the level it is, you can't have a candidate trying to explain the 17th Amendment or Fed gain much attention.

I can remember being so angry over Cruz's treatment that I put my registration in for the LP here in Florida.

Then I saw Gary Johnson take the opening he was given and with it made Bill Weld his "Co-Presidential" candidate. Utterly disgusting. Weld spent more time using his platform to campaign for Hillary Clinton than for his own running mate. By the time it was nearing the end, Gary Johnson had actually advocated for a John McCain-like carbon tax on gasoline. Rothbard was probably rolling over in his grave.

Broke back to vote for Trump after Cruz decided to let it go and work for his election. Margin here was razor-thin.
But like you, the "above the law" status of Hillary Clinton made the "need for Trump" obvious.

There will be other opportunities for the Libertarian Party, especially if 2024 nets us a "Me Too" Republican like a Kasich or a Hogan.

The thought of Kasich and Hogan running for President in 2024 is about as pleasant as dreaming of a threesome involving Maxine Waters and Rashida Talib.
