This is just NASA, right? Would really hate to see NSSL be disrupted any more than they already are with the Vulcan issues thus far.

Looks like my 737-800 I'm flying back to DIA from AUS on tomorrow has starlink. First time I've seen a plane other than an emb 170/175 w/ starlink. Such a game changer.

Technologically it's cool. But I actually enjoy being offline during flights.

Is there a requirement to go online?

My guess all along has been late March and I now think it will be that or slip to early April.

Since this thread is on the political board, Mobile Starlink will scare the hell out of despots (and democracies) across the globe when they can't turn off or monitor the cellular communications within their country.

So this is science/space related. But the Japanese released a "picture" of the sun by measuring neutrinos. The science behind it is crazy. But the fact that the neutrinos can give us a glimpse of what is happening within the sun before light does is fascinating.

Also, another great thing about this video is Physics Girl (Dianna) has been battling debilitating auto-immune reactions to covid/vaccination/spike protein/long covid and this is her first video to release in over 3 years.

God loves you so much He'll meet you where you are. He also loves you too much to allow to stay where you are.

Really cool video and even better that she appears to be on the very very long road to recovery. Those first videos with Destin a few years ago very really tough to watch.

When is space x launching. Any firm dates in March, as iirc, that was the next proposed time

Probably slipping to early April at this point.

I don't think there is any way they get it launched in March based on past testing and proveout tempos prior to launches. They have a whole new ship that has not been fully tested yet, a new test stand, a new launch pad, etc. So even though they appear to be "hauling ass" on the assembly as I saw stated elsewhere, I think it is very optimistic to think they will get all the testing done with no issues and have it stacked and ready to fly in the next 3 weeks. I am thinking mid-late April is more realistic, but I guess we will see.

Yeah 4-6 weeks was the most recent guess from NSF videos I've seen.

Ugh... of course it is.
No, I don't care what CNN or Miss NOW said this time

I didn't know about this:

ETA:

This observatory will also be able to block starlight to directly see exoplanets and planet-forming disks, complete a statistical census of planetary systems in our galaxy, and settle essential questions in the areas of dark energy, exoplanets, and infrared astrophysics.

I love that our new space telescope is built on a spare NRO mirror roughly equivalent to Hubble. How many Hubbles does the gov have pointed at the ground?

Quote:

The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is
@NASA
's next space observatory, set to launch as early as fall 2026.

Named after NASA's first chief astronomer, #NASARoman will have a field of view at least 100 times larger than
@NASAHubble
.
This field of view will help us better understand many cosmic mysteries including dark matter and dark energy. It will revolutionize our understanding of the universe by revealing countless cosmic objects, from stars and planets to galaxies and black holes.

The telescope will be heading a million miles away to Lagrange point 2 along with fellow telescope,
@NASAWebb
.

Check out http://nasa.gov/roman to stay up to date on the mission!

I may have been in the facility where these satellites are assembled. You could estimate the number produced by the number of gaps in the mission plaques hanging in the wall.

I knew that came out last night but didn't try to watch it then. 1:12 is actually pretty short for his specials. I'll probably watch it tonight.

I've watched about half of it. It's great. But he says this is part ONE of four or possibly five parts.

He puts a very high value into his production quality. I'm surprised Elon hasn't at some point conversed with him, he must have rubbed him the wrong way somehow.

Phillip Sloss of NSF has an update summary on Artemis/SLS changes, fwiw:

Unrelated, but is this possibly/most likely for HLS?

With only 10 engines installed I guess we're going to get to watch 2 static fire campaigns for B19.
