Chopsticks in FL are almost half the length. I don't like the low room for error:

One thing with superheavy, at least what I've read in the past( this **** changes so fast I can't keep up), it will be able to actually hover. Falcon 9's biggest issue with precision landing is that it can't throttle deep enough to hover. They have to bring it in and make a very precise deceleration maneuver so that the altitude and velocity reach 0 at roughly the same time.

Supposedly the flying office building can stop and maneuver itself. Which... it's a flying building, the fact we're even discussing whether the thing can do it accurately is...incredible...

Far enough away to not be damaged by the sh 33 engine test fire.

Sure enough;

CSI Starbase is a great follow on twitter/youtube for those who don't already.

Deluge ring visuals are great. I can't keep up with it all but I'm glad to see they aren't just hoping for some fairy dust to solve this. BC is really just a work in progress more than anything else.

They even used the same font on the graphic to the right. If you're going to copy SpaceX, you might as well copy everything I guess.

If y'all had a free 1 week vacation and South Padre was near the top of the list for various reasons, what would be a good time/place to stay and try to see a launch (thinking summer so it's easier for the kids and school).

I was starting to think about the same thing. It's the first launch though, so I would expect a few scrubs.

Really tough to say as this one has taken 18 months just to get to a full static fire. If they decide to put in the water suppression system and have to also do substantial tower repairs from launch 0, I'd be surprised to see another launch this summer.

I am cautiously optimistic this one goes off the pad in mid march or so. You just never know tho, spacey could accelerate quickly if the faa etc lets them. A much safer if less awe inspiring vacation gamble would be to head to the cape for one of the falcon heavy launch windows. They are putting an f9 up every three days or so, and are busiest launching in the summer I think.

So is Boca Chica not being used to launch anything else at this time, until this thing gets off the ground?

Correct, Boca Chica is dev and testing for Starship only, no Falcon 9 launches are happening from there.

Last I saw, SpaceX was predicting late Feb to early Mar for a launch? Someone correct me if I am wrong.

My family has missed maybe 3 launches since they built that facility. Feeling a rocket blow up is something else... can't imagine what will happen if this booster doesn't get off the ground.

The best thing to do is to stay where ever you want and make your way to the County Park/Jetties for day of the launch. Personally, we spend the day fishing there and just park our car right on the water looking across the channel to the launch facility.

We plan to be at the next one, might even hold a campaign rally.

There are theories floating around that the GOV (via FAA) doesn't want to let SpaceX go too commercial from Boca Chica. Since they are operating out of the Cape (Goberment owned), they can maintain more control on the activity.

From a local perspective, I am friends with the County Judge that sign the initial agreement with SpaceX and the Governor and some locals are upset that the contract SpaceX has is not being adhered to. Specifically with the closure of the beach and access roads. It is no secret that the area is being controlled directly by Elon.

Do you mind if I ask what is not being adhered to?

The RGV area is mixed between loving SpaceX and hating them (far more the former than the latter, I believe). The area was poor and struggling and SpaceX brought lots of investment and high-paying jobs into the area, which is a good thing. SpaceX also brought lots of infrastructure demands and there has been lots of road construction to accommodate them. It's the grift that comes along with sudden growth.

It's a small group of people, to be fair, but it's not an insignificant number who like accessing the beach at Boca Chica, since it's state property, and don't like all of the people coming into "their town". Then the environmentalists that are part of SaveRGV are causing a ruckus as well.

SpaceX would love to have total control over the Starbase area but the access to the beach will always be a problem, since that's a state park.

I'm sure South Padre loves the attention as well, but I predict that will only last until those 33 engines fire up for the first time. The southernmost tip of SPI is only 5 miles away from the launch pad and Starship is going to be LOUD. If there's a RUD on the pad I can only imagine how far up SPI the glass breakage will be.

My personal belief is that SpaceX will ultimately keep Boca Chica as a testing/development center for Starship but that most operational flights will depart from Cape Canaveral.

You can hit this google maps link to get an idea of the geography. Looking north you will see all the SP resorts. Looking south you can see the launch tower.

Note from a guy from south texas - the beaches at SPI aren't really that much better than Port Aransas or Corpus. However, they're way less crowded usually (except for spring break).

Very true.

All, you can filter by site/rocket here pretty easily and then start to guesstimate if you want to go on a trip etc.
