That debris field is pretty massive. I don't see the FAA clearing the next launch any time soon.

It's been reported some debris landed 5 miles away.

A piece of extremely lightweight insulation that may have fallen off during ascent. The "debris 5 miles away" thing is being sensationalized....a lot. The debris field is well within the exclusion zone, 5 miles is still within what the full orbital stack exclusion zone will be.

The whole reason they're not doing this at the cape is the inability to clear a big enough exclusion zone in the first place.

SN11 launched, the data was retrieved and processed, and now we have a simulation of what happened...

Didn't understand half of that, but still interesting. Thanks!

Everyday Astronaut has a pinned YouTube video that goes over the primary forms of rocket engine designs and highlights the simplicity and complexity of each. I'll go find it.

He also said anything you sent him, he would divide up with others who lost things, which definitely shot my level of respect for him up several notches.

If I have to make a bet he will ask the community what they want done with the money, and invest it in cooler and more cameras.

I've always liked him anyway, but I definitely respected him more when they're in the middle of thinking they've taken a potentially bankrupting amount t of damage and he's thinking about other people too! I'm rooting for him with dear moon, he's one of the few space tubers I think has a realistic shot.

I know some of this has been joking, but I do think Elon is hinting they are doing the moon landing somehow no matter how the NASA award goes for HLS.

They've already announced an rc car race on the moon soon: https://www.businessinsider.com/spacex-falcon-9-rocket-moon-rc-car-race-frank-stephenson-2020-12

DOGE coin is up ~20% today. Up over $.06. AND is ranked the #16 coin by market cap.

TO THE MOON!

Sounds like April fools, but I could completely see Elon Musk doing this.

There's no such thing as a literal doge coin I think is the crux of the joke (although some conspiracy theorists also argue the same about the moon).

You can buy a physical dogecoin... So technically a dogecoin can go to the moon.

How's that work? You stamp a QR code on the coin so whatever you make is tied to a certain amount of Doge? If you use a nickel is it worth 5+6 cents?

A physical representation of a dogecoin...

Correct...

But maybe they take a piece of paper with a wallet address with 1 DOGE in it to the moon? Would that count?

That'd be cool. Print the address on the outside, put the private key inside somehow so if you open it up you can access it?

In 1000 years when someone finds the coin and it's worth 4.7 Billion USD (and can buy a hot dog) it'll be quite the stir

Well yes, that's true if we're talking a literal coin, but you can always send something like this

I don't remember where I saw it, and I can't find it now...

but this morning I saw a post on social media that was screen grab of falling debris and one of the landing legs was visible.

The caption said "SN11 successfully deploys landing gear".

ETA:
Looking for that post and can't find it - but this was funny:

Ok, so it didn't make it in a 'few days' but it looks like they might try to get it to the pad in the next few.

But, question, I thought the SN15 thru 21 or whatever would be much more advanced, yet I see this type of metal work/fabrication (pinching, if you will), and wouldn't think this is much closer to a vehicle that is produced in a way which could, if the tiles were all over one side, fly a thousand times. I'd be pretty worried if I saw something looking like this on a 777 I was boarding.

I do think SN22 or something like that is supposed to be the next big change...

Quote:

Possibly due to a significant shift in focus from Starship mass-production to the construction of Boca Chica's first orbital-class launch pad and flight tests of prototypes SN8 through SN11, Starship SN15 has been in the stacking and assembly phase since the turn of the new year. About a month ago, in early March, the rocket's tank section was stacked to its full height and has been making slow progress in the weeks since clearly not a pressing priority.

The day after SN11 exploded, SpaceX stacked the last two pieces of Starship SN11's nose and joined their plumbing and avionics runs, more or less completing the upper third of the prototype. Both nosecone flaps were installed a few days prior. On the same day, March 31st, SpaceX rolled Starship SN15's tank section (the bottom two-thirds of the rocket) out of Boca Chica's 'mid bay' assembly building and installed both after flaps before moving the vehicle into the 'high bay.'

Elon said SN20 was the next big change.

Yeah, ok, but still, this shouldn't resemble, in my mind, something from my HS shop class is all.

MAYBE that's ok on the first few (like BN1), but what's going on there now (yeah, it's not pressurized at that seam)? Keep in mind, the Boeing 787 was recently held up for months for deliveries because they used 'shims' between body sections that were fractions of a millimeter off spec.

Pretty sorry manufacturing/precision/fabrication/welding there, imho. They'll need to be a whole order of magnitude more precise (in a six sigma way) for a vehicle to survive launch, orbit, and re-entry, is the bottom line.
