They should just pay one to sit on site full time
They have to be careful while bidding for multi-billion dollar DoD/Nasa contracts, otherwise they could just pay for a little apartment and a nice six figure payment to one to live there full time, yes.

The FAA, the agency we're talking about? Harrison Ford STILL has his license, despite a multitude of incidents, including one that nearly rammed his rather large private plane into a loaded passenger aircraft when he mistook the taxiway for an active runway.

Those are the people providing "safety and oversight" to spacex.

Sigh. This pisses me off so much.

Good Lord.

I still haven't heard what the actual risk is. There's a TFR in place. It's evacuated so there's no one there, and they can blow it up if it goes off course. If Elon Musk wants to launch these things with the intention of having them land in a glorious fiery explosion on an empty beach who the F cares?

Why don't they just jump on a Zoom call with the inspector and hold the camera up pointing at the launch pad?

But hey if that won't work (and in all seriousness) they need to pay for one to be onsite or park a Lear 45 at the runway by his house. Delays are expensive.

Figured you were talking about Ford. He's had multiple very serious safety infractions that very well would have cost the average Joe their license.

Yes, I lost all respect for the FAA between that and the drone garbage( which is prime example #1 of them doing things for political reasons and under big business pressure)

Or just pay me to be an "inspector". I can wait as well as the next guy and if the FAA inspectors are as useless as all the other federal inspectors I have every seen I should be able to read three books on how things fly for toddlers and be better trained in aerospace engineering than them.

Yeah, the FAA has no jurisdiction over hobbyist aircraft. That was according to the bill that funds the FAA. And yet the FAA went ahead and regulated them anyways. They even claimed the airspace within a millimeter above the grass in MY yard.

Yep, even the new remote ID rules are ridiculous in their extreme. They caved to Amazon and a few other interests who THINK they MIGHT be able to use the airspace... someday, maybe.

And F_A they could offer me a job sitting in boca chica, watching them launch rockets full time at the piddly ass amount I make now, and my boss wouldn't have time to open the envelope before I resigned and headed south. There's thousands of people, all over the country, that would GLADLY monitor them full time.

Government meddling confirmed.

Quote:

The change stemmed from an investigation into SpaceX's violation of that launch license during the SN8 test flight in December. SpaceX proceeded with the flight despite the FAA determining that the flight profile exceeded the maximum allowed risk to the uninvolved public for "far field blast overpressure" in the event of an explosion. While the SN8 vehicle exploded upon landing, there were no reports of damage outside of the SpaceX test site.
SpaceX was slapped on the wrist for SN8, but the FAA should also receive a slap on the wrist. Not for not punishing SpaceX, but for mistakenly coming to the conclusion that an explosion would put anyone outside the launch complex at risk. That was wrong, and it should be understood going forward that these launches as they are now, have not been putting the public at risk.

Notice it's two of the three west coast states, when Musk is bailing from the west coast. If the CA pols had done it he could have yelled bias, so their buddies set it up.

I'm so sick of this mess. We stand on the verge of the greatest age of exploration humanity has ever known, and all any of these politicians can think about is how to line their , and their friends, pocket books.

If I recall, it wasn't even that the explosion might risk damage per se, but that it would if it were a little more humid possibly break a few windows and that wasn't documented in their risk analysis wording they submitted to the FAA. That weather condition didn't happen, but it could have.

A little farther off the coast-the fog I has given way and the overcast is starting to break up - but it's going to be breezy. I halfway feel like this was an exercise to make the inspector get out of bed early.

Apparently there's some tank farm activity.

The fog looks worse than it is due to the cameras having to zoom so far to the pad. They are actually really far away. Hopefully it clears up.

Everyday astronaut has a camera ~500ft away from the pad and there is a palm tree in that camera ~50ft away that has just now come into view. It was white out on that camera until just now.

They made an interesting point about how yet is more difficult to make sure the surrounding area is clear with the fog.
