Having worked with Apollo veterans early in my career, I have a hard time comprehending how deniers exist. They're fascinating to me.

My dad trained the astronauts in geology, helped come up with the requirements for the lunar receiving laboratory, and was in the room when they unboxed the samples from the moon for the first time. He just laughed at the deniers. Some of the pictures they used to use as example of the "fraud" were from a sample moon terrain that he helped build in a hangar at Ellington to test equipment and to let the astronauts practice in their suits.

In amongst the boxes of old stuff I have from him, I think I have a cassette tape that to his knowledge was the only audio recording of that moment when they were unboxing the first samples from the moon and loading them into the vacuum boxes at the LRL. He said he had a little cassette player/recorder in his office and he took it in there, set it on the table and hit record before they started opening the samples. He also avoided getting quarantined in the LRL over a holiday weekend by a matter of a minute or two after somebody tore a glove working in a vacuum box and didn't follow protocol to tie it off properly.

You should get that preserved. I'm not sure if it's a fun listen or not but it seems very historically significant.

Fincke has joked that he was abducted by aliens.

Do you have your dad's old Apollo 11 Preliminary Science Report. My wife interned with the Lunar Planetary Institute and has every PSR but that one.

Not sure. I can look. I have about 10 totes of stuff he had in his office or the garage. He was there from late 63 through Apollo 15 I believe, then left to do mining geology in Canada and Alaska.

Not an infection, they swapped him. The 20 minutes were used to learn our language.

Ummm, you likely have some serious historical artifacts in there. You really should do something with those.

It is in the plans. I doubt most of it is really that interesting or valuable, but a few of the things are and I need to get somebody knowledgable to look at them.

Nice updates. The Japanese pressurized rover is interesting, hadn't paid attention to that. Looks like a lunar MRAP.

Okay, so we are 3 days out. Time to lay your wagers:

1 Does Artemis get fueled without a launch hold due to fuel loading issues?

2 How many boats enter the range, causing holds?

3 Does Artemis launch on April 1?

4 If no to #3, when does it launch? Window is open until April 6…give a date in that range or "after April 6".

5 Does Artemis get a go for TLI?

My guesses are:

1 - No

2 - 1

3 - No

4 - April 4

5 - Yes

I'll go with a launch on April 2.

Don't know why, but really nervous about this one.

It's not the lunar part that concerns me... Despite some lingering heat shield questions....
It's the damn Senate Launch System getting the crew off the Earth that gives this lay-person pause.

I specifically avoided certain questions in my set above for a reason. The previous reentry issues and lack of subsequent real world mission profile testing worry me.

It is a few things for me...

1. Little to no publicity. This is a pretty big undertaking. Why am I not seeing it anywhere but on X(for the most part)
2. After seeing SpaceX and their fast iteration test flights(success or fail) and then Artemis... No launch tests, etc. Just going to fly some old arse engines for the first time that no one has seen fly in a lot of decades.

Good luck Artemis!

ha ha, Elon showed them that he could build launch towers for a fraction of the cost and at a fraction of the time needed and I think NASA decided we should probably not do this if SpaceX can do this so cheaply (and we dont want to get publicly embarrassed any more than what has already happened)... but I assume most of us know why all that cost so much- yikes

Not sure if it was "mismanaged" per se. It did exactly what it was supposed to do in spending a whole lot of money via a preferred contractor in a state with key senators on the right committees. Actually getting anything functional built was always a tertiary objective of the whole program.

Artemis II is just flying around the moon, if everything goes right, so I think that graphic is a little silly. I just wish this was the last SLS launch.

Let's not fool ourselves.

The Artemis II mission profile is one that 1960s NASA deemed completely unnecessary.

I saw it. Thanks for reaching out. I was going to spend some time digging around to catalog what we have a little better, but I may reach out once I get that accomplished.

Isn't basically a repeat of Apollo 8?

Apollo 8 tested lunar orbital insertion, lunar orbit, and the burn for trans earth injection. This mission goes around the moon and comes home. I think it's essentially a free return following their lunar fly-by

Believe me, I've seen what fifty years of humid summers and cockroaches crawling through can do to stuff stored improperly.

If you find yourself with a bunch memorabilia and papers with little monetary or sentimental value, I believe UH-Clear Lake has a program where you can donate old paperwork. They'll sort through it and preserve anything of historic value.

If it's anything like repeats of Apollo 13 on cable television, I'll be watching. Houston we have a problem, lol. Always gets me
