My unsolicited advice to the BO production team: need to work on audio ducking and selecting which audio is most prominent. Just running with flight ops, pbp chick, and crowd noise all cranked up to 8 was pretty awful.

I'm betting that was intentional so that they don't lawn dart into the ship, just not expected by us based on the falcon 9/and starship booster landing profiles.

Yuh I really hope there is drone or other footage that will show what happened. That was for sure going into the drink until it didn't.

6 years ago I was working on the launch platform / transport-erector for New Glenn, contracting through a company here in Colorado. Got to help with some design and analysis of the rocket hold-down collets. Awesome to see it launch and land!

Yeah the drone shot looked like the exhaust hitting the water was WAY off to the side.

It's intentional. Their booster can nearly hover, whereas Falcon 9's booster can't throttle down enough to hover. Falcon has to use the energy gained from gravity to offset their engine's power relative to weight. If they time it early the rocket will start ascending again, late it goes boom into the platform. BO lights, throttles to hover, pivots to the ship.

Just a heavy duty ramset like is used to fix the bottom plate to the foundation. Guessing this is a bit more the .22 though

Falcon 9 aims for off to the side of the drone ships until the onboard computers deem it healthy enough to attempt a landing, since there's no margin for error. Starship and NG can hover so they just move over at the end of the journey.
