They keep calling me, I have no idea why, I've never had the money to donate to anyone but relatives there now. Certainly not going to atm.

Actually kind of irritating when they wake me up...

The Association employs current students to make those calls. I too calmly explained my issues and was met with the "we're separate" spiel.

I told them I only get one vote on behavior - it's dollar signs - and that's the way it is.

Very simular conversation.

My voice isn't wanted, but my money is, so my money becomes my voice.

They weren't doing the "we're separate spiel" when they called me last month. The young man I talked to was very polite and when I explained that I wasn't giving another dime he kinda sighed and said he was hearing that more than a few times a day. When I mentioned that I multiple local donors mention the Sully protest and Young's actions/inactions as the reason they drop their sponsorship of our local scholarship fundraising events, he became very interested and asked if he could send my name and story up the chain of command. I agreed, but of course haven't heard anything.

On the opposite side of that coin, I am renting a Jeep through Turo for a trip in CO and the owner of the jeep has a daughter that goes to A&M. When I asked how she ended up at A&M from CO he laughed and said she lived most of her life in northern california and got accepted to Stanford, Cal Tech, MIT, Naval and a few more but when she visited they were all so liberal she hated it, so she visited A&M and loved how conservative it is. I laughed and explained that a decent portion of the Alumni are upset that we have become so liberal, he pointed out that we only look liberal because of where we live, we are still more conservative than most.

That says more about how ****ed up other parts of the country are and less about how well A&M is doing things right.

That was the just of the rest of the conversation. What is scarier is that he was adamant that they/she thought we were more conservative on the whole than Annapolis.

Instead of coming on here and bragging about how you let a young girl of class of '23 know how you feel about A&M, how about you call the Association and speak with someone higher up and explain your position to them.

I get it, not another dime etc, but really? Young girl working her way through A&M and think your $$ means anything.

This misplaced compassion is troubling. Let me make an extreme analogy, "I really don't like to see Hitler marching across Europe, but I don't see any reason to shoot that Nazi soldier over there cuz he's just a kid working is way through the war." There is a system in place and you don't get to talk to Hitler, he won't listen to you, but shoot enough of his soldiers and you'll get his attention.

I hear you, we all don't want to be uncomfortable, and especially our kids being uncomfortable. But look at it this way-- that class of '23 is learning valuable lessons, like rejection, how to stay calm, and the customer is always right-- things kids who take 9 hours and head home to watch video games do not do. Its not construction jobs like maybe we did and helped make our minds up that we wanted to get an education, but it is a job, and she maybe is learning a thing or two-- like maybe if there are a lot of Ags that think this way, maybe they are right and I will look into it, rather than saying, "oh these guys are bunch of racists". Her goal ought to be to work out of fund raising and complaint department to something else. Maybe, just maybe, she will understand and her first pay stub with all those deductions ought to be teaching tool as well, she is financing those who Ags are complaining about. She is just like the student who has to take the crappy enchiladas back to the kitchen, and all kids ought to get a dose of it.

I don't understand why you folks ever donated in the first place. I paid good money to go to what's supposed to be a publicly funded school. Why would I dream of continuing to pay them?
Because a lot of Aggies want to "give back". They feel that A&M has been a major factor in shaping who they are personally and professionally. They want to preserve the culture for the future.

Sadly, the actions, inactions, and less than honorable dealings have sapped that goodwill from many, many donors.

I rejoined the Century club for $125. I hadn't done it in a couple of years. Young is on the way out, and I think/hope we'll change direction in philosophy with the new President. I know the BOR are upset about how things have gone the last couple of years, and how they've boiled up in the last few months. If Young wasn't heading out, no way would I have given.

I want to support the alumni voice in what happens, and I think the message is getting through that we've had enough. I think the message is being conveyed loudly right now, but behind the scenes. I actually prefer this stuff behind the scenes. I don't like others, especially the sips, seeing us in turmoil and trying to take advantage of this.

Believe me when I tell you, I was fighting mad with the Sully circus. I still am. If I hadn't started a new job, I would have joined the Old Ag phalanx to keep Sully from being abused/removed.

Sully issues are just a symptom of a bigger problem. We will never completely remove the radical voice from Aggieland, but we should be prepared to lead to counter their voice when the stuff they say and do harms us.

This year was much bigger from a global perspective on how it affected us. We'd have had to deal with some big and very real issues no matter who was in charge, but the current President certainly crapped the bed and made us look inconsistent at best, and without integrity at the worst.

I may be wrong, and if I am I'll go back to not giving.

What gives you confidence that your donations will go to principles you agree with and not those you disagree with? A&M dedicated $100MM to diversity. A&M failed to punish Aggie smollet who attempted to blame a white student who happened to be walking his dog.

This is like giving money to a church knowing that the pastor is siphoning money into his own pocket. Yes you are within your rights to give (some good may come from it), and maybe by giving you make it easier to convince yourself the problem really doesn't exist, but in the end you enabling poor stewardship.

This should be the message. Once the Association publicly voices opposition to how the university is being run, I'll donate again.

I've received 2 calls. Both times, as nice and as polite as I could be, I told them to shove it. I said until the university takes some corrective actions they won't get another penny, not dime. I told them I was extremely embarrassed and angry with how the school handled the Sul Ross situation.

Why do you assume she's some snowflake and the reasons for not giving aren't compiled and carried up? I dealt with unhappy customers while working in high school. It was part of the job and I learned a lot from those interactions.
Bingo!!! I learned some valuable lessons as a telemarketer (I worked late calling the west coast, so it's ok). I learned very quickly that the actions/words of another do not have to impact me at all. Remove emotion, make a decision on action, and move on.

This "young girl" will likely be much more successful after working this job.

Got a "potential spam" call last night also. Seeing your post I looked at the number and sure enough it was 979.

They stopped hitting my CC when plandemic started. Surprised they didn't just continue. Guess I'm still registering as donor to TxAgs.

got one of those a couple months back and said similar...whatever outrageous thing was going on back then...been too many to remember this year. The kid was polite and so was I. He basically said he agreed without saying it as they're not allowed to, but then went on to ask for career advice and ended up being a very pleasant convo. Just stay nice as best you can -- don't know what the opinions are on the other side of that call.

but yes, until we see our school come back to reality with some of this stuff.....GTFO with asking for $

Looks like the full court press happened last night, as I had the same call, maybe the same young lady '23. She gave me the same story - not directly affiliated, non-profit, scholarships for all student athletes, etc. I was very courteous and let her talk (uninterrupted) all the way thru her pitch to re-new my 12th Man Foundation status. Finally, she asked for my support.

I told her that before I could answer her question, she needed to answer a couple of mine.

1) Will the football team would be kneeling for the anthem?
She wasn't able to comment.

2) Will the football team be adorning blm support on their uniforms?
She wasn't able to comment.

3) Will the end zones be painted with woke wisdom?
She wasn't able to comment.

4) Will the stadium be flooded with social justice banners?
She wasn't able to comment.

5) Will there be "awareness" videos before/during/after the game?
She wasn't able to comment.

6) Will student athletes be continuing to protest against the LSR statue.
She wasn't able to comment.

I could tell that I was rattling her, so I apologized. But my answer was clear and she understood exactly where I stood on current events. I declined to renew this year but told her not to remove me from the list as I expected things to change in the future, and when it did - I'd be back.

Until then... #notanotherdime

Has anyone talked to Porter and gotten an idea where he stands on this? I kind of felt that when he was doxxed some time ago he'd be pissed enough to throw a little weight around. The Association has a big hammer it can wield against the University, and it's high time that happened.

I find myself hopeful he's doing that behind the scenes, but the longer we go without hearing anything definitive, I become less confident that any sort of statement is being made - behind the scenes or otherwise.

I'd like to think that there are many Ags with my same story. My individual contribution doesn't make a dent. But combine my cancelled membership with others and the TMF feels the pain.

She was very quick to rebut and explain they aren't a part of the school and just a nonprofit organization, leads me to believe she had heard this many times before.
Then what we need to say when we get this call is please tell me what the association has done to make the administration aware of how the students and alumni feel about the changes at A&M, the socialist teachers, the behavior of the football team etc.

I may be mischaracterizing your response here, but I don't think most of us want to completely remove the radical voice from Aggieland, but rather like you said in the second part of that sentence, we want to be allowed to voice counter opinions without being called racists. That's been the most frustrating thing for me to watch is that these fringe groups have been allowed to speak for the university at large and when some individuals have tried to stand up to them they've been empowered to insult and denigrate people just for not sharing the same ideas.

Also, I received the same call and delivered the same message. When Young is gone and the university regains it's spine to stand up to those that would harm it's reputation, I'll be ready to give again.

Can you explain this to me? I don't see what any of this has to do with their opinion of us? The only place I find a rivalry with the sips is in athletic competition and the way our athletes are treating the university I couldn't care less about them. So why do we care what they think or how they may "use this" if it's in recruiting or the like I couldn't care less. A kid who would be mad at us shutting down the likes of KM are exactly those I don't want in maroon and white.

Truly, the only place TAMU is in rivalry with the 'sips is in the area of biennial legislative appropriations. All else is fluff.
