The mayor is throwing the cops under the bus.

Not only said its a horrible day for the city, but that the police should not have responded, but since they did, they handled it wrong.

It sounds like she thinks they should have dispatched a social worker instead.

It is going to get really interesting in a few years when the cops have been defunded and we start having a string of social workers being murdered on the job. Given the pay they receive and potentially being sent in to critical incidents, I'm assuming they won't be able to find anyone to do the job.

Drew Brees and Kirk Herbstreit are not going to be happy about this.
That's okay, they can cry for their remaining 100's of fans.

Nah we will start being told that social workers need more money and that they need body armor, maybe guns. Then someone will say they need the power to arrest or detain people. Basically cops without all that laws and standards of decorum crap to abide by.

That has no legal significance. I would call it a pointless headline, but the point was clearly to mislead people into thinking that meant the officer did something wrong.

From the medical perspective, of course it was a homicide. The guy died from gunshot wounds. The ME couldn't rule
it anything but a homicide.

Is it the coroner's job to determine if a cause of death is "deliberate and unlawful"?

homicide

noun
NORTH AMERICAN
the deliberate and unlawful killing of one person by another; murder.
"he was charged with homicide"

Fully understand it has no legal significance but very few people even understand the nuance. I know the idiots who have been in the streets of Lancaster sure as hell don't.
