After a successful unlocking and departure earlier today:

Re-entry and splash down will occur sometime after 1pm central tomorrow!

This will mark, first and most importantly, the safe return of two American astronauts, but will also mean the US officially has an operational ability to launch manned flights, and that a privately owned company has successfully launched, operated, and recovered a manned space craft.

I think I saw it is scheduled for 1:30 or so CST.

I think you're correct on that, I've seen a couple estimates around that time frame. Think it depends on the de-orbit burn and when they time it out.

The broadcast kicks off at 12:15 for the de-orbit if im not mistaken, right now they're running a stream, but it's a lot of replays and coverage during the coast.

Landing zone is near Pensacola. is that because of the storm or will it always land in the gulf?
Always the the spot. The other spot is near Panama City

Maybe a little earlier (says 12:48 CST right now) but on their channel earlier this am I thought I heard somewhere around 1:30, but yes that is dependent on the other stuff so maybe we're still guessing a bit.

Jettisoning the trunk might be amusing to watch.

So I happened to check in on the space x stream

She said they're expecting re-entry blackout at 11:36 PDT, so 1:36 CDT right? I'm going to try and catch it a little before that.

I didn't realize Doug's wife is an astronaut as well, she's going up on one of the early crew missions.

I hope NASA realizes the cities are not actually in the ocean.

Seriously, it's another time to ponder that NASA wouldn't let SpaceX land the crewed dragon on land precisely, as it intended, opting for the 'safer' water landing parachute style. Oh well, I suppose most astronauts don't get seasick real easily.

How did SpaceX want to land them and where?

COVID so severe it literally moved cities hundred miles offshore into the sea.

Looking forward to the re-entry!

They originally wanted to use the thrusters to land a la Falcon's. Supposedly, it's still an emergency option I guess.

Cape and other East coast FL sites are out of play due to the storm. So Pensacola and Panama City aren't the only sites, but they're all around the Florida area.

So excited for this!
I got chills and tears in my eyes when I watched the launch.
I was 9 when I got called inside to watch the moon walk.
I remember exactly where I was for each event after.
Today is my 40th wedding anniversary. And again, we'll be glued to the television this morning (west coast).

Both hotels I've been in here in Florida have the NASA channel as their home channel when the TV is turned on.

That room looks SO different from the old NASA rooms we all saw for decades.

So cool.

No. A hotel room, and I'm working this evening, training a new crew, outside.

No, their orbital path during reentry is a northeasterly direction...going over Mexico/Central America

I miss the NASA Select channel that would basically just show you whatever was going on with the mission control audio loop going and occasional updates from the PR guy.
No, I don't care what CNN or MSNBC said this time

You don't have it?

I just flipped to it, just now, to check and see....yep, still there.

Currently mission control, and a chick and a dude talking about things going on. Just showed the flight path.

Funnily, mission control, with most everyone at least 8 feet apart in their seats, are all masked up.

Hopefully the inability to speak clearly doesn't impact anything.

MC: " Mmph, mmmmph, mmmpppph!"

Crew: "What?"

MC: " Mmph, mmmmph, mmmpppph!"

Crew: "I....what the hell are you saying? Is there something wrong? Should we abort??!"

Never change.

That reminds me of the scene in Marooned: (great movie)

Astronaut [somewhat fuzzy from deprviation] "Preparing to blow the hatch..."

Control: "No, No, OPEN the hatch... The Hatch. With the lever. Open it. Do Not BLOW the hatch!"

Farwwoosshhh!!

"Hatch blown....!"
