Are you ******ed? As a true Independent that didn't vote for Trump (or a Republican ever) the Democrats are an embarrassment. You'll see a true voter turnout in favor of Trump this go around.
This is me 100%. Not to belabor the point, but I also did not vote for Trump in 2016 (nor Hillary), and was going to abstain from voting this time around as well up until about the last 6 months or so. This display by the Dems has been an absolute and total embarrassment to any rational thinking person. It is a disgrace to our nation and our institutions. I will hold my nose a bit, but will without question be pulling the lever for Trump this go-round. The Dems have lost all touch with the true concepts of classical liberalism and have embraced the infantile emotional temper tantrum methods of the unhinged leftists. It is pathetic, and I can only hope that at some point we can stop regressing as a republic.
Thank you for your honesty. I know that if you lean left, no arguments on this board will likely change your mind and make you "conservative". But to hear that some Democrats are seeing the unravelling of our institutions due to visceral opposition to this administration and are uncomfortable with what they see gives me some hope for our future.
As I have told my 20-something left-leaning child: This election is not about Trump vs. Biden. It is about the fundamental values and institutions this country was built upon, which are now under assault on many fronts. We are witnessing Animal Farm and 1984 first hand.
I lean left on many social issues, but have always been a moderate to heavy fiscal conservative. However, as a matter of principle I consider myself a reasoned individual, and do not wholly subscribe to any one platform (not that most do). If there's one thing that I consider to be true above all else, it's that our nation was founded on the most forward-thinking and freedom-preserving concepts. Now, we have not always lived up to those ideals, as many have pointed out, but that does not change the fact that at its core it creates the freest populace on planet earth. And that above all else, should be preserved for as long as humanly possible.
I lament the current state of affairs, and given the behavior of the Democrats, have but one choice that gives me any modicum of hope that freedom of thought, of speech, and our very fundamental institution of government can be saved. I voted for Obama the 1st time, voted Libertarian the other 2 times, and haven't voted for an R President since W. At this current juncture, I agree with you that it is a critical tipping point, and that many of our freedoms are at stake. This is not about tweets or anything (arguably) banal, this is about the threat of hysterical, emotional, reactionary changes that could be destroy the most crucial cornerstones of our government.
