I wouldn't lump Collins in that group after she went scorched earth on Democrats at the Kav hearing.
She may have shown some amount of honesty and fairness in that but she's not a movement conservative.
Still, I also think she is not in that group. She is just a genuine case of the one or two that does have questions. I suspect her answer would have been the same even if the only one. She is not a Romney or McCain. She has proven that.

Appears Bolton's book is about his own assumptions and presumptions of events.

So more of the same.
Can't do it now, it would look like full-blown suppression.

But after this any book writing for profit by a former admin official DURING the term of the admin served under should be off the table. You have to wait till the next administration. Its just too undermining.

And if there is real concern about what is going on, you publish it -- FOR FREE. So no interference with your free speech and power to `mention things during the admin' before someone brings it up. But it would keep your motives clear.

The problem is interpretation. Whomever leaked the manuscript, bolton himself or someone else, did this intentionally at this time for the express purpose of pressuring Republicans to introduce witnesses to their trial.

The times article doesnt even need to be all that accurate. They only need the headline.

Further, there is a 0% chance the dems didnt k ow about this before the article leaked. The held it back for the express purpose of a pressure campaign, and because if they would've interviewed bolton during the house portion his testimony couldve been diluted with the others and summarily disregarded.

The dems are not playing for 4 Republican votes, the are playing for one. They had three in the bag.

Oh lawd how many bet challenges? Trump can be hilariously guilty, bungle the cover up, have top aids turn on him, and the Senate will probably still acquit.

This just makes it more uncomfortable for them to do. But there's a wildcard. Does anybody think this tornado of sh#t is gonna stop blowing? More leaks, more damning info? The truth keeps coming out and Trump was caught in a BIG lie.

No argument. But my solution would deal with that too. It wouldn't exist to `leak'. Should not. I am actually surprised they do. They seem self-evident breaches of internal security if they happen during the same admin rather than `tell all' after the fact.

Some republicans are finally starting to understand the game; an ongoing naked political power-struggle where no ethics, morals, or norms not immediately advantageous to the subject party are recognized or entertained.

If the leftists feel their power slipping, they will gladly accept this as the new norm rather than see their technocratic, collectivist, authoritarian dreams thwarted. They will run roughshod over individual liberties to achieve their goals.

I hope more people in the middle and on the right come to understand this in terms as stark as it actually is.

The left has been playing this hand for 50 years. They've sickened our government and sickened our culture. They shouldn't be upset when the other side finally starts to catch on.

And like so many posters on this board, and so many people in the country, I have trouble imagining a situation in which I shifted my support from the current administration to the vultures, ghouls, and criminals that oppose it.

Spot.On.

It is comparable to what have said before --- the Allies played to better standards and ideals, but they were not bound by stricter rules in WW II. They did not start it, but were determined to prevail in it. It was the Allies that went to unrestricted submarine warfare first.

Good grief man. I could fart in an envelope and say the fart might have overheard Trump thinking about conducting competent foreign relations and the MSM would run it up the flag pole and pencil neck would bring it to the floor and open it and take a big whiff and proclaim "see!!! We must call the fart in the envelope to the witness stand!"

You people are so desperately unconvincing that you have passed irritating and wandered into hilarious land. Your whole effort is a shameless, pathetic, parasitic joke. I'd even buy you a beer I feel so sorry for you.

Didn't that play a role in Donitz's war crimes defense.
It did indeed. And to the Nuremberg trial's credit, they actually took it into consideration and lessened his sentence. He is lucky he became Chancellor after Goebbels and not earlier because it was obvious his appointment was as a `surrender' position. One that could negotiate it.

For Trump fans, it seems like the definition of "conservative" is based entirely on whether or not one is a Trump fan. There seems to be no consideration whatsoever of any philosophy of conservatism.

In reality, populism is not conservatism.

Not when nobody is watching the "trial" and instead watching Don Lemon insult Trump supporters.

In reality, populism is not conservatism.
Politics is about compromise.

"Conservatism" that's ill-equipped to stand up in the face of leftist demagoguery never delivers anything, conservative or otherwise.

"Conservatism" that makes all the right noises, wins some elections, and never spends an ounce of political capital to actually enact any of its principles, never delivers anything.

Rank and file conservatives (real conservatives) are fed up with both stripes.

Trump is an imperfect standard bearer, but at least he is willing to unapologetically (and frequently militantly) bear the standard. I hope that's contagious.

The bulk of the news media, the education system, the entertainment media, and the metastasizing political and bureaucratic class are arrayed almost uniformly against conservatives.

Champions are where you find them. If it requires a little protectionist populism and doctrinal compromises to win elections, so be it. Better that than the other side, who literally want to destroy the representative republic.

Every person that works for the president, lifelong Republicans, loyalists, and appointees all corroborate the allegation or have been blocked from testifying.

Trump's primal instinct to lie and the clumsy cover up made this worse than it had to be. "No quid pro quo" is a laughable lie nobody believes now.

"He did it so what?" works much better and doesn't require lying constantly for 5 months.

Now he's put Senate Republicans in a corner. Block witnesses, appear to be part of a cover up, risk slaughter in 9 months. Allow witnesses, more lies get uncovered.

His counsel didn't deny knowledge of the manuscript today. They MUST have known about the contents. Now they risk charges of lying to Congress and additional obstruction articles.
