No country on Earth has this thing contained. No matter the method used, it only appears to merely delay the inevitable explosion of cases.

Singapore is experiencing something similar. I doubt South Korea will be able to continue their measures for long.

Adequate testing capacity is great if you are actually testing. Japan was holding off for as long as they could to host Olympics. They have poured in tons of money prepping for the games. Less than Rio spent but, money spent to prep for olympics is very controversial and not an easy sell to people. Plus there is the billions in lost revenue from visitors not coming.

BTW, I've completely given up on not touching my face. I have extraordinary willpower in most things, but that is not one of them. I can't freaking stop.

1) PR, because the virus came from their country (perceived as their fault).
2) There's money in a cure.
3) PR...China saves the world from the china virus.

I won't disagree that China is evil, is hiding facts, and bares enormous responsibility for the pandemic, but there are plenty of less sinister reasons for them to be looking for a cure.
