um, what makes you say that over Europe?

they are older, more dense

I am talking country versus country. Not regions of the world.

We are 330 million in population or whatever and we didn't test and isolate and let this spread all over. It's everywhere today.

The #s you see today are actual cases from around 10 days ago.

28% of New Yorkers who were tested yesterday were positive.

We will go over 100,000 cases here by the end of this week. Probably Friday.

Just belly laughed when I saw your username. I have to ask... did you recently have your username changed to that or was it always this? If the latter, you're a prophet and I must start worshipping you.

A TexAgs spokesperson is now saying "This "very large acceleration" in case numbers in the US amazingly correlates with a "very large acceleration" in COVID-19 testing in the US. Also, Chi-na is FOS."

We are ramping up but we have a long way to go.

A vast majority of our testing is in Washington, California and New York.

https://covidtracking.com/data/

Many states still haven't reported over 1,000 tests given.

Most states are reporting over a 1000. Also in many cases the negatives are underreporting. Private labs only report positives in many places so negatives aren't showing up.

The data is still very poor.

but NYC is fundamentally different from St Louis

I think it's reasonable to say NYC is the current global epidemic center

but extrapolating that to the US at large is a mistake

Yes, the United States is gonna be the epicenter of this pandemic. We will lead in infections and probably deaths unless some African country passes us.
How?

The epicenter is and will always be the point of origin Wuhan, Hubei, China.

Probably best to stick with Chinese lied and Americans died.

I think there are a number of us who understand the severity, and don't need to be constantly reminded that it is the end of days. Some of us are trying to look for any positives. Then we just get insulted with how we don't understand "simple math".

We are going to catch up to Italy in about three days, and China in about four days in terms of total verified cases. Right now our death rate is still low, if it holds and the hospitals don't get overwhelmed, we won't catch them in deaths for a couple more weeks.

Iran's actual death toll is probably much higher, but we won't know until someone looks at the aftermath. Also, I think India could have some serious issues as well, but it is too early to tell.

This is why the numbers, graphs, etc., good or bad, are frustrating. You can pick and choose who you want to believe but in the end no data set in regards to Covid-19 is going to be right.

Talking about official #s. Agreed that Iran is much worse off than we are but that's how it's always been.

With that I am out on this my dear politics friends. Hopefully Trump beats Biden this Fall but if he doesn't I have a few bets out on that as well. I view those bets as a hedge against him losing.

Interesting because so much of the information (especially the initial information, stories, studies, etc) that has been posted has been been proven to be flawed, biased or propaganda. Did you complain when the thread was a bunch of unverified videos from China watching people lying on the ground possibly dead or doors being welded shut? And every time, we post a news story from 2-3 days ago, whether it be good or bad, that information has likely changed.

Italy is about 2/11 of US population.

Not surprising that we would surpass Italy in deaths.

Ho hum.

We could implement China and Korea style quarantine and violate our Constitution in the process.

Man, I'm looking for information on both sides. Good or bad. I want to better understand what is going on and how it's affecting our country and those around me. People are busy exaggerating or talking of "moving goalposts," acting like some posters are rooting for mass casualties, which is certainly not the case.

This centralized thread was a good resource because it was a fairly good compilation of information relevant to me (and most of us) because of the commonalities many of us share. There are a hundred other threads for bickering.

As for the other posted asking about the stuff posted from China, I largely disregard it because I don't trust anything coming out of that country.

I predicted it would take us two to three weeks before America grew tired and universities would regret shutting their doors down the entire semester by mid April.

I greatly over estimated this timeline.

Glad to see it.

This breakthrough is going to reopen everything much quicker than anticipated, imo. From Doc Reveille's daily update over on the virus board yesterday:

"We have some very positive news also! The combination of hydroxychloroquine and zithromax combination is starting to be used widely in many trials and reports are still very encouraging. Early reports are now saying that we have yet to see a patient on this combination require a ventilator. This is very early but still encouraging. If can slow down the amount of critical patients and deaths, this virus will just become a 2 wk netflix binge. And contrary to a doctor on CNN this is not a highly dangerous drug that has not been tested. He is right in that it has limited testing with COVID but it has been out for 65 years and we have tremendous experience with many other diseases. Yes, it has many side effects as I have pointed out previously. Some are considered serious but they are not common and if you are positive for COVID-19 in my opinion the benefits probably outweigh the risks. Certainly, if it is available I will definitely be using it in my patients, family or even myself. There is also a trial started in healthcare workers to see if it prevents the virus. So that should be interesting news, if it does and we can protect the healthcare workers this would be a huge breakthrough in getting things back to normal."

There is also growing evidence that drug combination may also be a preventative. Even if it isn't, its quick curative effect should end the need for business/government shut-downs and allow considerable easing of social distancing. That would allow the economy to restart and provide breathing space for the eggheads to create a vaccine.
