Rumor has it that a shelter in place will be issued for Harris County soon. A press conference is scheduled for 9:30 am, so lots of speculation that it will be announced then.

Spain continues to trend towards Italy being 2.0. Sets another record for fatalities before noon local time. They also report 4321 new cases, which is a record as well (previous max new cases was 3925 on Saturday).

A month and a half ago, people on this thread were claiming that a global pandemic was approaching and that everyone should be making preparations to quarantine. Fools mocked them and claimed it was a conspiracy.

Now, the same people who were warning others a month ago are discussing case statistics. The same Fools who were wrong a month ago are once again ridiculing them.

Why should anyone listen to the Fools?

DFW has an advantage in that many of its roughly 90 hospitals are part of large hospital systems that have been stocking up on respirators and protective gear since late December and early January after seeing how hard COVID-19 hit China, Love said.

Will Texas again show that its leadership culture is better prepared for crisis than the coastal regions that get most of the media's attention?

Will the regulatory culture we have show that private companies can operate here in ways that help them to be stronger, healthier, more cutting edge, and better prepared to serve customers no matter the situation?

I don't know, but it would be great if this guy is not wrong.

If what he says comes to pass. Is what's happening in NYC and California a failure of Trump's leadership or a failure of the business climate of those states?

Its simply the cost of saving a potentially overburdened healthcare system.

These models get more and more "rosy" with every iteration. These are starting to sound like used car commercials that promise nothing down and easy low monthly payments.

This bug has to run through the population. No getting around that.

For what at it's worth, I understand why people are angry and lash out.

People are on different stages of Kubler-Ross's 5 stages of grief:

1. Some are still at Denial "It's just the flu!"
2. Many have moved on to Anger "Your alarmism is crashing the economy!"
3. A handful are at Depression "Infinite QE is going to ruin my retirement savings".
4 & 5. People who have been following this story since January are at the Bargaining/Acceptance phase "This is gonna suck. What do we need to do get thru this?"

The mindset between those at the early stages and late stages will inherently create friction and conflict. I just wish those at the earlier stages would realize the coming here and blaming others isn't productive.

Hopefully, we can buy time so that drug therapy will let the bug running thru the population not be too bad.

Them putting "Wuhan-style lockdown" on that graph is BS. It's BS scare tactic that is disingenuous. Whether they intend it or not, there will definitely be people who will say, is Dallas county considering doing a Wuhan-style lockdown? That question should not even have to enter people's mind.

Also, holy crap, the source of their information is wild, PJ. Do you agree with the sourcing? Do you think that source is something a government should be seriously using in it's decision making?

Dallas ICU capacity is already filling up. Today. As in it's way above normal and this thing is barely getting started and we are still a good month away from peaking here.

I have no idea what the source of that chart is but I have heard epidemiologists warning about our ICUs filling up in early May for the past month+.

Nothing I've seen since has made me feel better about that prediction other than the fact that Seattle hasn't been overwhelmed yet. NY makes me feel worse but that can be explained away by their population density and public transport.

The predictions are 40-70% of Americans are gonna get this thing. I feel like people who aren't seriously concerned about our ICU capacity and therefore are welcoming any kind of serious shutdown are ignoring reality and thinking things are going to be ok because they've always been ok.

Its also similar to cycles of abuse. Again the difference in solutions is simply trading lives.

And also again I wish people were so concerned about the society's vulnerable during the good times as they are during these bad times.
