Because you give time for all the current cases to clear.

You also reset the board with fewer transmission pathways than before, because now some pathways are people who already got it and won't get it again.

And agreed. American people are happy to work together to solve problems. They just need to be told general objectives and good reasons and let loose. We're not getting clear straight talk. Or not enough.

You can be reinfected with this virus.

EDIT - I can't do the strike through font on my phone so the above should read "there is a chance you can be reinfected" instead of just "you can be reinfected".

From your article:

"however, in certain individuals, the antibody cannot last that long."

So the vast majority of people do become immune. Where is your ag tag?

As has been stated on this board, certain viruses such as Ebola, are difficult to eradicate in certain people. It can pop back up several times in "cured" patients. This is probably what occurred, not reinfection.

Fair enough. I should have said "there is a chance" instead of "you can".

My point was that you can't hang your hat on the immunity side either as the poster I replied to was doing. Not enough is known either way.

Here is a more recent article basically stating that...

The reset doesn't make it go away does it? Given how contagious this virus is and that there's no natural immunity, why wouldn't the infection rate simply pick back up again at the end of the two moths? So instead of being exposed to 10-20 people daily we'd be exposed to 0-5 people. Kids and their parents will still be asymptomatic carriers. And if its true that you can get this virus, recover and then be infected again, well....

edit to add: if they believe a time shift will work to keep us for being infected, they should say so. Or if they need us to avoid events, so they can more easily track cases and events, they should say so. Be open and honest and be clear as to your reasons. Promoting the cancelling of even small group events for no obvious purpose only incites more fear.

Stretching things until summer, which historically the flu spread poorly, is smart to help build up the system and develop a vaccine.

On top of that, you want to slow down the spread as much as possible so we don't overwhelm our medical system.

Letting this spread in 2 week waves would actually save lives.

I got one BIG freaking question today.

So, the guy in Montgomery County that was the spark that the Houston Mayor used to cancel the rodeo IS NOT A CONFIRMED CASE OF CORONAVIRUS!

He is a "Presumptive" case until the CDC confirms.

I would assume that today they would have the results back from the CDC? How F-ed up would it be if this Montgomery County guy doesnt really have Coronavirus?

Do you think they will tell us?

Anyone know if the test came back conclusive yet?

Nobody is saying "a guess". But I want to know why have we not been told that it has been confirmed? Does it really take this long? And then how reliable is this test?

Personally, I have to trust that our politicians are being advised by smart people. I would imagine these smart people who study pandemics tend toward overreaction rather than under. In hindsight, the outcome of any decision probably looks different than before you had all the facts.

This is certainly not an apples to apples comparison - but I wouldn't wait for the bomb squad to confirm a bomb was present/real before I left the building and advised others to do the same if a threat was made.

Your Ag tag tells me that you are assumed "presumptive" Aggie.

If you produce your diploma you are "positive"-ly an Aggie.

The Montgomery County case tested positive locally (presumptive), that was then sent to the CDC for the (confirmed positive) diploma.

Edit to add: I'm not sure why these confirmations are coming so slow though.
My religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me. That is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave.

If we are taking the results of the local test as a confirmation, then why call it presumptive? Have there been tests that showed a positive that turn out to be wrong?

If you are reckless and go about your business as if you don't give AF, and you end up giving to some older people and cause them max pain when you know better - you'll have to live with that. And trust me, everyone thinks they are some ****ing hero bullet proof person but it'll hit home if you don't need to be doing something - catch it then spread it to some elderly. A lot of our old folks are veterans that served this country or our are parents - laying low for a bit, not shaking hands, not traveling - it's basic bs - if you can afford to do it.

This is a code red - look at the world response.

yes, absolutely

but hopefully less so, given more time to prepare, better therapeutics, more infrastructure installed, better diagnostics and detection capabilities, maybe just maybe a vaccine or similar breakthrough

this does seem like the critical time, hitting the reset might buy you 2-6 months worth of time

might

Your wording is a bit confusing and since people are confused by this, let me re-phrase.

Presumptive means the local test concluded that he was positive for the Coronavirus. The CDC will confirm this to move it to a "confirmed" case. You can bet the presumptive cases are indeed correct.

Right. You can't stop it. All you can do is slow it. That's what we all need to be thinking. Reduce the number of pathways, protect the weaker folks, prevent surge demand from making this more deadly than it needs to be.

one of the notes out of Italy I read is that in many cases, the virus presents as even LESS than the flu

so it's doubly dangerous, with a false sense of security

youngish people are like, that was no big deal meanwhile it can completely debilitate people over 60 and in a much worse way than the flu

SBA making low interest emergency loans available, and no penalty no interest tax deferrals are coming for "some individuals and businesses". Possibly halting payroll deductions. In my opinion on the economic front the admin response has been really strong. Those are novel and effective ways for the govt to backstop and act as lender of last resort at the lowest level of the economy.
