I spent 8 days at a Cambodian orphanage last summer. The level of poverty there was numbing.

God bless you for the work you do.

That sounds great. Did they overreact when they built those temporary hospitals and quarantined the city (including locking residents in their apartments)?

Italy's northern quarantine has already failed. They aren't even enforcing it.

Quote:

On Sunday afternoon, there was little sign that Italian authorities in the north were enforcing the new decree, for example by deploying police to prevent people from traveling.

Trains were still going to and from Milan's central station, with no controls on passengers.

"We thought we'd find the army here, but there have been absolutely no checks," said Ali Anir, who was changing trains in Milan with his girlfriend on their way to their home in Verona.

There was no disruption to air travel, either, with scheduled flights still departing and landing in Milan. A sign at Milan's Linate airport assured passengers that regular service was continuing.

Nope. I said early on that this originating in a communist nation was a blessing and got called out for it too. US could've never put in the measures they did in the time frame they did. Hell, even though they did it, they still had a run of people jump the province before it went into effect. Same thing as Italy.

I've said that even though the media has overdramatized this, it at least brought awareness and people are taking more precautionary measures with hygiene and how they move around.

It's the panic, sensationalizing, and doom and gloom that has aggravated me and annoyed the **** out of me from the very beginning.

For Christ's sake, you can't get ****ing toilet paper or bottled ****ing water at stores right now!! You kidding me???

I do not think any one is against fellow citizens. We are for science and against flippant attitudes that can lead to situations like Wuhan. Yes only 4000 have died in China, but they reacted to the situation. I do not believe we need to reach the high numbers reported, but I believe we will with the flippant attitude we are taking. WHO stated countries do not have to take the draconian measures if testing, isolation, and tracing occur. Look at Singapore, exactly what they are doing. You can not look at other countries GOOD numbers and say this is nothing if you are not doing everything to get GOOD numbers yourself. We are not doing what it takes to get GOOD numbers.
IrishTxAggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?

What has to be done to get those good numbers? What further measures should be taken? All the deaths in the US so far have been older people or people with underlying health issues.

I freely admit that I thought Trumps travel ban measures were premature, but holy **** I was wrong. The man bought the US almost an extra month to prepare. But yet, he was a racist for doing it.

The panic from people perceiving others' panic is insufferable. Good lord. Who cares if people buy water and TP. Get over it.

How will China control the new infections as people go back to work? Will people wear PPE for next year or longer?

From latest figures, recovery time for this infection is 32 days. How do you propose other countries handle outbreaks? Like China?
Robk

Test, isolate, trace. That is what we should be doing. Hopefully, as stated, we get that going this week. We should have been doing weeks ago. Testing all people who presented and did not show negative flu results, and not just the ones with travel to Wuhan.

These kids have nothing like that.

But they have a church community that wants to help.

I cut them the a deal because grandmas asked. Another couple of kids had done private tutoring and I raised their ACT score, so they want some help for the kids that don't have a lot of family help.

How could anyone not want to help make a difference?

I asked them to have these kids write an essay from one of three topics and send it to me. Either on paper, which I would pick up, or in email. Just so I can get a baseline on how they write.

If we want kids striving for more, and church is willing to help, I will do all I can. This is how change is made. Through people going out and walking the walk

Being realistic and rooting are two different things. They didn't cure the disease they just temporarily broke the cycle of infection. And if you believe the Chinese numbers they still have another 1.49 billion or so citizens that have no natural immunity to it.

This isn't going away with the wave of a magic wand. They got it down to a acceptable rate of spread w some of the most draconian measures ever seen (and we don't know what they did behind the scenes) and effectively destroying their economic activity. We probably won't be doing (Or accept) the same here.

It's going to take months and years to figure this out and come up w solutions.

I am a teacher in a small and very poor community. Most of our kids have phones, so here is a solution I have used. Google classroom and hangouts for those with phones and data. Google classrooms, hangouts and a hotspot for those with phones and no data. For kids without phones we loan out a cheap $149 chromebook. It does involve a little expenditure but if the church can pull toghter it is fairly minimal.

In fairness to the scaremongers, CV is actually a risk to society as opposed to the religion of nicer climates, I mean climate change.

Ground zero (metro area of 19M+ people) was under Marshall law (welding homes shut, forcibly taking people with fevers away) to keep it contained.

But, sure.
I think people are hyped up because the videos coming out of China were startling (to us). That's the key, to us, because we are a free society with a superior health system. China is a communist nation where the government runs everything -- including the heath care system. China has the ability to react the way they did without any consequences to the government. People started to think what if that happened here - which would be life altering in the US to have the government welding doors and dragging away people with fevers. Those images helped fuel the panic you are seeing today. I guarantee you this isn't the first time China has responded in this fashion to a health crisis in their country. The internet has allowed us an opportunity to see more of China than in the past.

Fauci just added fuel to the fire. Asking people with underlying health conditions to avoid airplanes. Good bye airline stocks.

Edit: For clarity on his statement. My opinion on airline stocks I'm holding to.

He didn't say that. He said to avoid IF you have an underlying health condition. That's not everyone.

"If you are an individual that has an underlying condition right now, not wait, you should start to distance yourself from the risk: crowds, getting on a long plane trip and, above all, don't get on a cruise ship," Fauci said on "Fox News Sunday."

You should edit your post. That's a huge IF.

I stopped by a nursing home / assisted living center on Wednesday evening. They didn't have any rules, but when coronavirus starts to reach this far, it won't surprise me if they do something.

The odd thing was that I said something about driving back in the dark and they invited me to spend the night there!

Look at which companies reacted the way they did and their leadership. That should tell you something. Even SNL was making fun of it last night. It's a giant media hoax to oil rig the election. China is no better than Mexico when it comes to sanity.

What's the point if it's already wide spread and you can get it at your local grocery store or mall?
aginlakeway
How long do you want to ignore this user?

So I can get this at my local mall? Are you 100 percent sure?

How widespread is it in Texas? I haven't heard of a single case in many larger cities.

I'm not sure your statements are factually correct.
IrishTxAggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Pretty sure most, if not all, in Texas are related to international travel with the majority being from an Egyptian tour. Not 100% sure, but don't believe I've seen a P2P case in Texas yet. Haven't dug that deep either though.
