Yes, they do have authority to mandate a quarantine. There is currently one in effect for travelers from China.

I work in vaccine manufacturing. This is true. No way in hell. You have clinical, efficacy, safety, stability, and regulatory sign off. Some of these tests to get established product out the door can take a months. New products usually take 2 years. Under freed-up guidelines, you might be able to swing 6 months. That is if everything is perfect, which never happens.

And that's all fine what's written in that article. But read this article now. I'm saying other countries could have and produce a vaccine that is certified by their own government that we in the US couldn't receive.

I'm not saying there wouldn't be some regulatory rollback in this case. But depending if they go a vector vaccine route, which I assume is the plan, that will still take time to develop and roll out something that actually works.

It really just seems that right now we're in the too late stage to depend on a vaccine even with an executive order. It really just seems like we need to be super extra careful to attempt (said with bulging eyes) to not spread it by keeping our distance and washing like you just had the worst desperation **** of your life. I have 2 girls with asthma and I can only hope their age is an advantage. I'm not looking forward to the next few months... I expect I might go full on gray by the end of the year.

These new west coast cases are old people from a cruise ship that have been roaming around before dying. Do you intend to blockade cruises?

My sisters about to go on a cruise out of SF to Mexico in a couple of weeks. I think I'm finally starting to convince her that it's a bad idea...

I apologize if that comes across as defensive, but I'm not going to lie, I'm very concerned for my daughters. I get that. And I'm trying as well as I've got two young kids myself. I've washed my hands, used hand sanitizer, and cancelled work trips.

All I'm saying is Im starting to believe that what I'm doing is actually not helping. I'm not sure anything can help. Doesn't mean I don't stop trying.

But to truly stop this we either lock everyone in their house for a month, or we pray that warmer weather does help the slow of it.

Aren't the young so far assumed to be in good shape, in terms of severity of symptoms? Or is that no longer the case? Unless your girls are over 70, in which case, nevermind.

Children are the least impacted from a severity standpoint. Take that comforting information in and use it as a calming point.

I'm sorry to hear that. But if it makes you feel better I started getting this feeling from the research on this thread. I was shocked by the number of people who get the flu yearly, the cold, other nasty stuff. Damn we are some nasty people.

So I guess what I am saying is that yeah I suspect upwards of 1 million people have this globally. I know no data, but if we only treat those who have strong symptoms then I find actual relief in that. Basically it's not as bad as we thought. But I guess time will tell.

A while back 4 homeless people in LA were found unconscious. They put out their usual headline tweet. It was posted here with every intention of making people think it was coronavirus.

Do you realize the implications of what you're saying?
Every US International airline will go bankrupt overnight.
And even if you had a legit reason to travel , you won't be able to.

And you would cause a ridiculous amount of panic like you've never seen before.

Given that, there is no reason to not test anyone coming in to the country that shows symptoms or has been in China/Italy in the last 1 month.
