The fomite angle is interesting and can account for the high infection rate for medical people despite PPE. It would also explain the widespread bleach spraying going on in China and Korea.

So if the virus causes catastrophic lung failure resulting in people collapsing in the street as shown in the 10th day of infection....my question is....

...what the **** are you doing walking around (still an aerobic exercise) with a respiratory illness?

Not to say they deserved it, but what the **** are you doing walking around out doing your business?

I would say a general ignorance of the seriousness of medical conditions either by general disinterest or a willful disregard of what's being said because of percieved overreaction. Bottom line is that people be ignorant. Not everyone can be a doctor, so the question is how is information effectively communicated... being not only trusted, but worthy of trust. I think its clear the media isn't helping in these matters.

Not to be a doomsayer but we know this gets bad after 10-14 days of illness. So how long do you think those poor dead folks in Seattle have been sick and spreading it? How long ago was their exposure?

Expect an avalanche of cases in the next two weeks sadly.

I think we're all waiting for that shoe to drop

Only thing that doesn't jive is 6 weeks of community spread and all the deaths have been out of a single nursing home?

Wouldn't we expect a 50 year old otherwise healthy person to have pneumonia in the vicinity?

I'm about 90% sure this willl Peter out to nothing more than bad flulike illness. But it should show us how fast the real thing, whether natural or manmade could wipe humanity out.

Flagging. Link an article with information or simply do not post.

Edit: Yes it was sarcasm, but simply to point that linking an article takes zero time and helps balance the doomsday rumors very common in this thread.

The cruise ship seems like it was a safer place than that nursing home.

Thankfully all of the first responders who might have been exposed have been isolated for a while.
It is crazy to me how this thing just pops up in seemingly random places. Next thing you know, we will have 700 cases tied to this one place.

I have been an Industrial Safety Manager in the metals industry for over 20 years.

I am also a volunteer EMT in my hometown. My son is currently enrolled in an EMT class and was just recently released to start his hands-on ride along training with other EMTs.

It was out of concern for his safety as well as mine that I originally started searching for information related to this disease and how it spreads.

When I first saw the news report photo's yesterday of EMS providers responding to the Kirkland nursing home I told a coworker... "they are going to get sick... they are not wearing the correct PPE and not following proper disease prevent protocols... I did not think that I would see affirmation of what I said this quickly.

Two take away's and a question regarding this post...

1) As to the seriousness of this situation... elsewhere I read that 2 of the people that have been admitted into the hospital in Washington state are both 20 year old patients and were admitted in serious condition. A lot of our first responders fall into the 20-30 year old demographic....

I know that due to their age and the statistics of this disease that people in this age group will likely be able to fight off the disease... but seriously... 20 years old and admitted in serious condition... let that sink in...

2) My original impressions stand... when you see China locking down cities with millions of people in them, when you see Chinese health care providers working in Level A or Level C hazmat gear... you better make sure you understand exactly what you are dealing with before you go in to the situation....

My question concerning this article... it stated that one fire fighter had already been released from quarantine already... how long have they known that this was going on in the nursing home... i was under the impression it was just discovered yesterday or the day before?

For my son and myself ... I have decided that I will not be putting ourselves in danger until we are provided with the proper PPE required to deal with a situation of this magnitude.

I echo your concerns. I'm volunteer fire/ems and we had had no instruction whatsoever Or change in protocol regarding medical calls for potential COVID-19 patients. Even when asking the officers about the virus I get a shrug. Our department is well connected and have people who work in paid departments in the major cities nearby, and several healthcare workers so it's not as if we are oblivious to what's going on...

I'm not saying I think I'm surround by infected patients, but in the coming weeks it wouldn't surprise me to see some in my area. It would be nice to have a game plan ahead of time.

Dude, a search for "quarantine Dallas" is all it takes and I found the exact same article as you. Hope you have plenty of time to go flag every single post that doesn't have a source in this thread. How have you made it this long in this thread to get triggered by that post?

US government is hiding transmission within the US by only testing people who have traveled.

Most cases are still travelers or their connections, but no one else is being tested, so we don't know how bad things are.

Amazon employee in Seattle office tests positive for coronavirus

  • Amazon confirmed that an employee who works in its "Amazon Brazil" office in downtown Seattle, Washington, has tested positive for the coronavirus.
  • Washington state has seen the largest surge of COVID-19 cases in the U.S., including several cases at a nursing facility.

Amazon on Tuesday said an employee who works in one of its Seattle, Washington, offices tested positive for the coronavirus.
We're supporting the affected employee who is in quarantine," the company told CNBC. "The employee is based out of Amazon's Brazil office building in Seattle, WA."

The office is in downtown Seattle on 9th Avenue, according to a search on Google Maps. It is not Amazon's headquarters office, which is located on 7th Avenue.
Amazon notified employees of the update in a memo, saying, "The employee went home feeling unwell on Tuesday, February 25 and has not entered Amazon offices since that time."
"We notified the employees who we know were in close contact with this employee," the memo continues. "The risk of transmission for employees who were not in close contact with this individual is assessed to be low."
Amazon asked employees who are experiencing symptoms to stay home and seek medical attention.
Washington state has seen the largest surge of COVID-19 cases in the U.S., including several cases at a nursing facility. Nine people have died in Washington as of Tuesday evening. The total number of confirmed cases in the state stands at 27 as of Tuesday, up from 18 on Monday. Health officials said 231 people in the state are being monitored for the virus.

How interestingly China line of us. Or at least of our bureaucracy. So many people with a lot to lose if they admit they are wrong, but unwilling to do so in the increasingly vain hope that things work out entirely in their favor.

I understand nobody wants a chaotic panic, but a serious concern might be helpful.

On CBS 11 Sunday or Monday night they mentioned that collin county number and said that it was folks returning from countries like Italy that were self isolating.

can you imagine if someone in an amazon shipping center gets it, and starts sneezing all over prime and same day packages?

even if it's denatured by the time it gets to it's final destination, it will still cross multiple hands from fedex/usps in just a few hours of leaving the facility.
