A President is supposed to calm the public when it is overreacting, which he did. This is TDS.

If Trump had said there is nothing we can do and it will infect most of the planet, the Democrats would accuse him of causing a panic. Nothing he says or does will elicit anything but a TDS response.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Agree. I wouldn't have tweeted that at all. Especially the part about the market.

Maybe Trump knows something we don't know that makes him less pessimistic than our doomsday pandemic scenarios.

Trump usually doesn't say something unless he believes it, no matter how misguided.

Anyone coming to an ER or urgent care clinics is being screened as part of the triage process for recent travel or contact with people who have traveled overseas. If they answer to the affirmative on either of those, particularly if the travel was to Asia or another affected country, and they have similar enough symptoms to coronavirus, they will be tested.

It isn't a good use of resources at the moment to test every Joe Blow off the street who is having flu-like symptoms.

Especially if they are having to send all of the samples to a CDC lab at the moment.

We'll see - I'm not as pessimistic about the perceived lack of testing at the moment. I tend to agree that the truth would be coming out by now if anyone was trying to cover it up.

Guess we'll find out one way or another.

New research on Remdesivir.

Remdesivir Prevents MERS Coronavirus Disease in Monkeys
Quote:

The experimental antiviral remdesivir successfully prevented disease in rhesus macaques infected with Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), according to a new study from National Institutes of Health scientists. Remdesivir prevented disease when administered before infection and improved the condition of macaques when given after the animals already were infected.

Strong probability that Remdesivir will work on COVID-19.

Yeah, he knows it's not running rampant and killing people in places that aren't third world countries because we know how to take care of our health.

I didn't take the tweet the way she did. To me it seemed like he was calling out Johns Hopkins for moving info behind a paywall that helped the public (not him). I'm sure he has other resources at his disposal for information, that the public does not. Probably previously recommended the site to some people and they called back saying it was behind a paywall and that pissed him off.

I get that we shouldn't be testing anybody who walks into urgent care with a sniffle, but I find it hard to believe that only 414 people have met the criteria for testing. The number of people who have recently traveled to the affected areas or made contact with someone who did must be in the tens or hundreds of thousands.

Also, since this thing be spread by people who aren't showing symptoms it seems only prudent to do some level of random testing of those hospitalized with flu symptoms. Otherwise we will end up like Korea or Iran where we go from no cases to hundreds overnight because testing was not occuring.

Iranian officials quickly sought to cast blame for the outbreak, alleging that illegal migrants from Afghanistan, Pakistan and China had brought in the virus, even as the first reported cases were in a city 600 miles from the country's eastern borders.

I get what you are saying, but in general that's not what the CDC is going to recommend until there is a need to expand testing. Targeted screening, highly targeted testing, and traveler quarantine is going to be the practice moving forward until there is a higher risk to the general American public.

There are a lot of logistical issues involved with testing a high number of people. As this is a new virus, there are likely very few laboratories capable of performing these tests at the moment. One of the things I'm sure, or at least I hope, we are doing in the background as we monitor the situation is ensuring that we have plenty of labs available to process these tests and eventually develop a quick test similar to the flu swab that will be able to be run locally. Most hospitals around the country will likely not have the ability to run these tests themselves at first and will have to send out lab work to an outside agency. Getting ahead of the curve in the testing will be a crucial step in fighting this thing if it starts affecting Americans in large numbers.

Shincheonji followers are taught to believe that Lee, the founder, is the second coming or the returned Jesus Christ.

Shincheonji claims that the Bible is written in metaphors and that only its founder, Lee, can correctly interpret.
Before founding his own religious movement, Lee was a member of the group known as Olive Tree.

The way I understand it they believe the virus is a trick by the devil to keep them from going to church/spreading the word. They continue to meet, worship, and proselytize without taking additional safety measures because of this belief.

12 Monkeys...that's a movie.
“It was miraculous. It was almost no trick at all, he saw, to turn vice into virtue and slander into truth, impotence into abstinence, arrogance into humility, plunder into philanthropy, thievery into honor, blasphemy into wisdom, brutality into patriotism, and sadism into justice. Anybody could do it; it required no brains at all. It merely required no character.”

"We found that our posterior estimates of basic reproduction number (R) in Wuhan City, China in 2019-2020 is calculated to be as high as 7.05 (95%CrI: 6.11-8.18) and the enhanced public health intervention after January 23rd in 2020 has declined R to 3.24 (95%CrI: 3.16-3.32), with the total number of infections (i.e. cumulative infections) estimated at 983006 (95%CrI: 759475-1296258) in Wuhan City, raising the proportion of infected individuals to 9.8% (95%CrI: 7.6-13.0%)."

As I posted earlier - the RO for this virus is horrifying. What we don't know is the mortality rate.
When 10% of your city is infected - even a small mortality rate can cause tragic results. Yet, even the numbers in this study are too low.

What is the RO in the U.S.?

We dont know. We are not doing necessary and sufficient testing nor are we containing sufficiently. We will be fighting this pandemic after it has already inflamed the population due to the incompetence of the CDC and WHO.

They are also taught that he is Satan too. That is both Satan and Jesus and that he constantly tells the members that the apocalypse is almost here and that he can't reveal himself until it happens. Yeah you can imagine how that has gone.
