I saw a chart with the breakdown of mortality rates by age a few days ago.

What is the sense with this in terms of death/critical/serious/minor case ratio?

The Summer Olympics in Tokyo will be interesting. That's a metric crap ton of money and a lot of people crammed in a lot of very closed in venues. Plus housing and travel. I would not be shocked to see them cancelled.

We really don't know yet because the ChiComs have been dishonest with the numbers.

Everywhere else the sample sizes are too small or not enough time has elapsed.

ROK, Japan, and Italy will provide the first real indication in about a month.

And of course, by then, it will be ravaging through Texas already.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious it's just a matter of when for impacting here and what level of impact. I've been way more of the wait and see and blow it off type, but it's clear it's going to be some sort of problem. Just how much is the only question really now.

Eh, we have about 2-3 more weeks of cold weather, and then we will be in 70-90 degree weather here. Another good thing for Texas is that we have had very wet weather the past month, and it usually gets wetter through March and April. Both of those thing will help combat the spread of the virus, and then you factor in that we have better hygiene than China, and we don't kiss each other as a form of greeting like lots of Italy.

Not saying we won't have cases here, just that the doomsday scenario is not likely.

I'd be much more concerned if I lived in a drier, colder state like Colorado.

Some of you forget, virus transmission rates decline dramatically once the weather warms up. They can't stay alive on warm surfaces for very long at all. Warm weather basically killed SARS.

And the total humidity in the air increases with the temperature, meaning that germs become heavier and fall faster.

If you are wanting to play it even safer, buy yourself a humidifier for your bedrooms and living rooms, and wash your hands like crazy.

As the supply chains start to break down for goods that cross through China, what will we start to see shortages of outside of electronics?

I'm already seeing the electronic component delay starting, but what other everyday things Americans buy are next?

I was raised to always have a few months supply of everything (especially food). I'm think medication and medical supply shortages will happen; especially with most medications being manufactured in China. So outside of that anything we can plan for?

Im hopeful, but I'm not so sure the summer will bail us out.

People travel more in the summer. Spring break is coming up, so lots of travel there. Lots of ways the summer can increase spread too. Also as we go to summer the Southern Hemisphere goes to winter.

The problem is that Europeans don't shop like Americans buying stuff all at once to last them 7-10 days. Europeans are every couple or three days to shop for groceries. They don't typically have the space for the food. They're stocking up because they're assuming some measures to go into place that will restrict foot traffic and it overburdened their grocers normal supply and inventory management.

Well, my scale did say that after 500 Million quarantined in China, I would consider it apocalyptic.

I mean, the world is not ending...well maybe.

That being said, I still don't think we know the true death rate of this thing...

Agree that Europeans do not have large kitchens nor capacity for food storage, at all.

But I also remember what Randall's and H.E.B. stores in Austin looked like when there was a slight chance a hurricane could make it inland. Panic buying is panic buying, wherever one is.

Aren't the temperatures in Singapore 80-85 degrees? Admittedly, they don't have a count like China or SK, nobody does, but it doesn't seem quite as sensitive to warm temperatures as SARS. Exactly. Of course it didn't help that the coastal communities were all streaming inland and swelling the demand for everything.

Pandemic declared within 2 weeks, is my guess.

80F at 0700 today in Singapore.

Maybe this is partly why their rate of infection is lower. And if this be the case that is good news.

We just don't know at this time.

It's ability to infect will always remain constant. But humid air means it just doesn't stay in the air where people can breathe it in as long.
