Genomic epidemiology of novel coronavirus (nCoV)

Quote:

This phylogeny shows evolutionary relationships of viruses from the novel coronavirus (nCoV) outbreak. All samples are highly related with at most seven mutations relative to a common ancestor, suggesting a shared common ancestor some time in Nov-Dec 2019. This indicates an initial human infection in Nov-Dec 2019 followed by sustained human-to-human transmission leading to sampled infections.

We observe clustering of related infections in Zhuhai, Foshan, Shenzhen and Paris. So far, all of these clusters are noted as "family cluster infection". This represents clear direct human-to-human transmission within a house-hold. We do not yet see clear evidence in the phylogeny for community spread outside of Wuhan.

So very limited communicability outside of China?

Honestly, I am not too concerned about the US. We have the ability to change behaviors and have better healthcare. Hell, even our homeless population lives cleaner than some places in China.

It's places like India that I expect it to explode exponentially.

For example: These pictures are the Dell Customer Service department going to their annual retreat this weekend. I hope they all used hand sanitizer.

Agreed on long term but I brought up the ship since that is 20 people they know where they came from, where they've been, what and who they have been in contact with, and how they are being treated. Probably largest group that have a lot of eyes on them and can report back verifiably. No one really know anything about what is going on in China.

All those "numbers" coming out of China - #s released, really? To where? How were they treated? Ages? Comorbidities? Any re admits??

Re the doctor - I've wondered if the CCP might use this virus as a cover to remove lots of undesirables & critics. What's a few more hundred deaths?
More like a several thousand reported as 200 or so.

Chinese hospital pharmacist, 28, dies after 10 straight days helping fight coronavirus

  • Song Yingjie was found dead in his dormitory after a night spent checking motorists' temperatures at the motorway checkpoint to which he had been seconded

  • During the day he helped manage and distribute essential medical supplies at the hospital he had worked at for the past three years

A 28-year-old hospital pharmacist who worked for 10 straight days helping to fight the
coronavirus outbreak
in central China has died of a heart attack, according to state media.
Song Yingjie, who was part of a medical team checking the temperatures of drivers at a motorway checkpoint in
Hunan
the province directly to the south of the epicentre of the contagion was found dead in his dormitory in the early hours of Monday morning, the Communist Party mouthpiece People's Daily reported on Wednesday.
The native of Hengshan county, Hunan, whose regular job was as a hospital pharmacist, had worked without a break since January 25, the report said.

Song had been seconded to temperature check duties by the local health authority in response to a central government order for all motorists using major roads and motorways to be screened for symptoms of infection.

He worked mostly at night, but during the day was also responsible for managing and distributing medical supplies at the hospital he had worked at for the past three years.

My main question now is when do we see a bigger instance if cases globally? Near China their seem to be more cases.

It just worries me that cases outside big China are being missed somehow.

It is more than the flu, but the big tell will be Western countries imho.

China is under reporting, but so far I'm guessing they're also killing of undesirables as well under the guise of the virus. It is telling that they're killing their economy, but my big sign is better data from more open countries.

The hospitals seem to be a way to coral the population into "likeness" centers, as one group moves from one stage to the next they are shifted as such. That appears to make treatment easier as you know which stage the patients are by each hospital.

Two different production facilities that I tried to order from are shut down until mid Feb (for now). No products will be shipped.

That's a much bigger deal than a few hundred folks being infected.

What if this just affects certain population groups differently. It wouldn't be surprising to find out that blacks, whites, Latinos, etc have a different level of vulnerability to a virus.

What if the virus is actually the aliens making contact. I submit this as proof.

Maybe. Except for those on cruise ships, it seems.

There have been at most seven mutations, however.

If factories are really shutting down then US goods are going to be impacted too. Can you imagine what it will do if this goes on for a couple months? We would actually start running out of consumable goods.

So I am assuming that just like the flu, a virus mutation would mean that a previous vaccination would not work and would need to be updated ?

The results of ship will definitely give us insight.

Even though it feels like it's moving in slow motion sometimes waiting for data to show some results we can analyze and digest, it's an extremely fast moving story.

It's only been 18 days since OP. Step back and think about how much ground we've covered since Jan 20.

In less than 3 weeks, we've gone from 200 confirmed and 139 new cases in China, to pillars of shame, to lock downs of millions, to flight and travel bans, building 10,000 bed hospitals in 10 days, almost 30,000 confirmed cases globally, casinos closing for weeks, auto manufacturers shutting down production lines, extreme money printing by central banks, people getting pulled off the street and put into metal boxes for transport to "hospitals", and cruise ships quarantined.

I never imagined we'd get here.... who knows where we'll be in another 18days.

That is incredibly scary and you know how Trump is literally Hitler and locking people up in concentration camps?

Well China has a epidemic and is likely committing atrocities at the same time and killing hundreds of not thousands of people. Plus why are they burning bodies in trenches (if this is what it is?) since cremation is done at 1400-1800 degrees Fahrenheit? Are they just burning the bodies due to the virus?

I saw something a couple of days ago where crematorium workers supposedly said that they weren't able to keep up. 10+ vans per day with 8-10 dead in them. At some point, there has got to be a backlog...especially when you consider the bodies they are pulling out of homes (and not counting towards the official count if you believe what was in my post on the previous page). And to be clear, I don't know what the fire is and I don't necessarily believe they are burning bodies. Just passing on what is posted...
