Okay guys chill.

Can we at least agree this is worse than the flu (at least in China since they locked up 75+ million people and closed businesses) and not a pandemic yet?

Otherwise we know **** till they have substantial numbers of illness outside of China to analyze since China's data is highly suspect.

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. That is what you do in a hurricane. So do that and quit yelling about all the tin foil hat theories.

Not so long ago President Trump accused Obama of spying on him. We now know Trump was spied on at many levels. So what was once a tin foil hat theory proved true in at least one instance recently.

So be considerate of others. Provide links to statements you deem facts. Don't tell someone to Google it. If you think it's important enough to add to the discussion, then ****ing add a link.

Before y'all kill each other.

Think of it another way. Mao and Stalin killed millions of their people during their tenures ( at least that's what is reported). Maybe Xi knew he had too many mouths to feed and deliberately released race specific bio-weapon (that attacks only Chinese people) to cull his own 1.5 billion person herd. They could lose 750 million people and still carry on as a society. In addition the lock down provides the opportunity to round up all of the dissenters w "low social credit" scores. This also kills off the old. In the end his herd is stronger and easier to feed and control.

All of this is difficult to absorb and understand. And frankly, scary as ***** We are all extremely stressed worrying about family and friends. Getting pissed off at our fellow Aggies doesn't do any good.

Equivalent of shutting down a bigger version of Las Vegas for two weeks voluntarily....

Quote:

Gambling in Macau has been legal since the 1850s when the Portuguese government legalised the activity in the autonomous colony. Since then, Macau has become known worldwide as the "Gambling capital of the world"[1][2] or "Monte Carlo of the East".

Gambling tourism is Macau's biggest source of revenue, making up about 50% of the economy. Visitors are made up largely of Chinese nationals from mainland China and Hong Kong. With the entry of large foreign casinos from Las Vegas and Australia, Macau overtook the Las Vegas Strip in gambling revenues in 2007.

Macau, a special administrative region like Hong Kong, is the only place in China where casinos are legal, and the business has grown at an astounding pace since the government ended the four-decade gambling monopoly of the Hong Kong billionaire Stanley Ho in 2001.

Macau is the pre-eminent gambling capital of the world, grossing the highest amount of gambling/gaming revenue and greatly dwarfing all the other gambling centers/cities

I think I read there are 4 billion people within 1000 miles of Macau. It's essentially a disease spreading super factory.

Please explain your reasoning. Seriously, I want to hear how you came to this conclusion.

Break it down for us. You made the claim, don't just throw a **** bomb and walk away, show us where he is wrong. Back up your expert analysis.

1) What are the specific examples of doom-mongering ?

2) Run through the errors you spotted in his analysis.

3) Give us your analysis of the situation in China and in the US and how it will play out over the next 2 days, 7 days and next month.

This can run until the end of the month with media propaganda but it could also crack up at a moment's notice.

IMO you've got to look for signs other than Dow prices and the number of cases. I believe i saw one today. Waiting for confirmation until I say something..... Hint: the political theater is ending at opportune moment.

IMO, we have 7 days or less before the SHTF.

Not Q.....
The story below is not the person I'm referring to however just another datapoint along the way.

Quote:

Goldman Sachs Group Inc (GS.N) canceled its annual partners meeting scheduled for this week because travel restrictions resulting from the deadly coronavirus outbreak prevented some Asia-based employees from making it to the bank's New York headquarters, according to two people familiar with the plans.

Goldman's global partners meeting, an annual week-long event for the firm's roughly 400 most elite employees, was canceled late last week, the people said.

The flu-like coronavirus has interrupted global business and trade as airline companies worldwide have suspended flights to parts of China...

At first glance it seems reasonable or does it? You need to understand these men have insight to financial information and have access to resources we don't and never will. Do you think, just maybe, they would act in their own self interest by providing a cover story and then quietly exiting the stage to safety?

The believability of the story rests solely on "restrictions on commercial air travel". Are you willing to believe that these employees don't have access to private air travel?

They didn't become billionaires by being stupid....

Conclusion = The super rich are bugging out in anticipation of what is coming.

Futures are up over 1% across all three major indices. Shanghai and Hang Seng were over 1% today and the Nikkei was 0.5%. All the European markets are over 1% currently.

Whatever. Frequent use of straw men, red herrings, ad hominem, and misstatements noted.

In order to author federal law, one gains considerable expertise in the subject matter at hand. His is not the only voice stating this virus is a bioweapon. His statement is simply easy to google.

Again, China didnt quarantine 100,000 000 people because 450 people died from a typical virus.

You think?

China isn't trust worthy. Also, CBR said it's a bio weapon in this thread because he watched the movie contagion once and read a book from the 60s. It's literally, what some people want to believe rather than truly based on reliable information.
Look *******. Learn how to ****ing read and learn some manners. I have never said it's a bio weapon and frankly said I didn't think that was the most likely possibility. But it is certainly possible. I posted links to some sources Explaining why. If you don't want info, don't ****ing read this thread. If you have info that is relevant, post it. If you just want to insult people who Actually are providing info, then gfy. Seriously.

Well, if that isn't the epitome of emotion and not fact based posting, then I don't know what is.

Will Home Depot suffer any supply shortages due to the lock downs in China? How about Lowe's, Wal-Mart or any other retail store in the US?

Would you invest in a retail company that is going to have half empty shelves for the next few weeks and months? Understanding that they will take a significant hit to revenue, I wouldn't.

You go right ahead though....fire away.

Btw it's called money printing by Central Banks, they are injecting billions into the markets to keep them floating. It won't last forever. Economic realities will set in.

The world's factory is closed for now.

You're asking if I would invest in three blue blood companies that may take a hit due to delays in some products getting back on the shelves? So you're asking if I'd invest in three multi-billion dollar companies that have dividends during an artificial time of panic selling? You serious??

Hopefully we will see all these aggressive control measures being taken start having an impact soon and things start to slow down in terms of number of new cases being reported and so forth.

Given that this virus apparently has about a 2-week incubation period, the new cases that we see today are a result of what was happening a couple of weeks ago. The center of this outbreak, Wuhun, wasn't put under full quarantine lockdown until on January 23th, just about 2 weeks ago. So we should getting close to the point in the lag-time where some of the measures would have started making an impact.

Can we keep on the the topic rather than resorting to insults please?

Japanese Cruise ship quarantined after passenger tests positive. 3000+ people on a cruise ship with one infected seems like a good test of the R0 numbers that are floating around. It's in Japan so that should give us more confidence in the numbers and the medical care.

The current numbers are absolutely low because people got this who haven't been confirmed, but if all the control measures being taken in China and by other countries - the quarantines, the flight cancellations, etc. - are having an impact then we should be getting to the point over the next week where you will start to see that.

Up until now, the vast majority of the new cases reported in other countries has been isolated to people who traveled out of China to some other destination, before all the quarantines and travel restrictions really started ramping up starting around Jan. 23th and later.

Now, if after another couple of weeks, the rate of new cases is still sky rocketing including a lot of new cases in other countries of people who have never set foot in China...then the problem is of course going to reach yet another level, because that means we have a true global pandemic on our hands.

Keep an eye on China's neighboring countries. If their numbers start growing significantly by the end of the week, the US isn't far behind.

Are you factoring in all of the angles to your investment decision making ? In normal times, I'd agree with you 100%, buy the dip. These aren't normal times.

How can you build a risk model without knowing all the details and with extremely bad data coming out of China? What is your time horizon on how long the disruptions will take place? Which Chinese regions will get manufacturers back to full speed fastest or slowest? Will tier 2 & 3 suppliers be able to get back rolling? How much man power will be lost to the virus (rumors have it the virus is hit young Chinese men hard)? Which critical management positions were lost on the factory floor? How will Home Depot offer a dividend when they can't stock the shelves? Etc.....

This whole story is just getting started, no where near the end.

There are WAY TOO many unknowns to throw cash at this IMO. I'd pull my position and go to safer assets and wait for more data.

This is the TexAgs Politics board where preparations for a Civil War are routinely discussed. The good news is, all those underground bunkers and weapons caches that Politics TexAgers have put in place to fight the libs and Federal govt. should be more than adequate to weather through a global pandemic.
