Aren't most people of Asian decent lactose intolerant? I wouldn't think they would be ramping up dairy.

Yeah, only people of European descent really aren't lactose intolerant. It's very very obvious when you look at how much milk some countries drink on a per capita basis.

The Chinese dairy consumption has picked up massively in the last 20 years. They aren't all lactose intolerant. They just didn't have much knowledge about it. The Chinese have begun drastically expanding their diets due to their continued missteps with disease.

I'll raise you one:

Wife (nurse) came home from work via the urgent care with a flu diagnosis. My 10 year old has seen some news blips and is scared she has Coronavirus. Fun times!

Take your son on a guys trip and quarantine your wife at home.

Any suggestion that the Chinese people - on the average, and its quite easy to notice - are not .... let's call it racially opinionated ....
has very likely never been to China, and very likely never talked to a Chinese person.

Makes sense I guess. I used to drink close to a gallon a day when I was in college and lifting weights regularly. I probably only do a gallon or two a week as I've gotten older.

It is strange. I assume it's true because it's coming from a Chinese state run news source. But I guess it could be an incorrect translation? I agree there's absolutely no reason to cremate the bodies immediately for a virus like this...

Exactly why i brought it up. State run source, it says. Mixed bag of reporting. But who incenerates body close or nearby. No transportation. No burial. No investigation of evidence. Or this bug has some serious untold survivability.

To use an extreme case, shouldn't we know Feb 15th - and definitely end of the month? We keep seeing this 14 day interval reported. So just to really push the time out there, shouldn't March 1 make it clear?

Friend of a friend was a plane from Seattle to Barcelona today. Sat next to a man from the Bill Gates Foundation who was headed there for some sort of emergency health conference related to coronavirus.

The word pandemic was used. Told him the next two weeks are going to be rough. Advised him to stock up on food and to make sure prescription medications were refilled.

Take it for what it's worth.

ASM Meeting this past week. At the meeting NIH and CDC decided that they were keeping this virus BSL3 but not making it an "infectious agent" so they don't slow emergency research.

Most of the meaning is clear, but can this be clarified, as the two lines are important to the rest of it:

The first part: "This virus is an empty bun." That could sound like `not a big deal, nothing burger, yes' but is that what it means?

Second, yes, the last line others are remarking on: "Don't disturb social safety.[got the gist of that] The meat inside is invisible." A critical line because a concluding one.

There was the ASM biosafety meeting this week. Lots of the virologist I know (some work on Coronavirus research) attended. This virus is currently BSL3. That is a level below Ebola but still requires showers and masks and the like. The authorities told my guys that they were keeping it that level but not classifying it as an "infectious agent" like they normally would because they need people doing research NOW. If they changed the classification then the researchers would have to get protocols in place and go through lots of red tape to get approvals before they could work with the virus. My university takes at least 30 days to do those approvals.
