At this point why the **** do we even have DHS or any other agency dedicated to the safety of Americans? It's not like they do anything towards this goal anymore because fears of racism has pretty much hamstrung anything they do. They won't shut down flights because they are so afraid of racism claims. Thousands of people may die because our government has no fortitude to shut down all travel to and from a region. It's either that or they care more about money than human lives and don't want the banks to experience problems.

How would we handle connections? Direct flights is only a portion of the incoming passengers

It's easy to see which planes come from China and which ones might have Chinese nationals on them.

Would they start building a hospital and blocking roads for a few hundred sick patients? They started quarantines when reports were still below 1,000, really?

He spends a large portion talking about the testing or lack thereof. Each hospital has had thousand and thousands come with symptoms, but they only have 100 to 200 kits. Most people gave up and went home or are staying at home now because going to a hospital is pointless now.

If you haven't watched this, do it. This man is scared ****less and close to breaking down himself. Civil society is breaking down in Wuhan because the entire system is massively overwhelmed. The Chinese cannot handle it at all.

I watched the video as well. To add to what has been stated so far, he also believes that the new "hospital" is expected to have negative air pressure, to try to stem the spread.

He is apparently a lawyer, trying to become a journalist.

He went to hospitals to see how patients were being treated. (No test kits, no supplies, talked about inefficiencies in receiving the supplies in "small boxes that require more time to open and to organize.")

He states that taxi drivers learned of the illness in December and warned each other to stay away from the market.

He says that neighborhoods, which may have 100,000 people, have only four taxis, and are supposed to be used for "transporting goods, not people."

If you have time to watch the video, do. It's very sobering. This is awful.

Could that possibly be good news? As in the # of people who contracted this already is much higher but might just be at home with mild symptoms that will clear up in a week? That assumes the % of most serious cases are at hospitals getting reported, while the people with serious cases that stay home is much lower...

Obviously if people are staying home and just dying that no longer is true.

I don't know why we're still so focused on China at this point, other than the potential economic impact.

No one can trust the numbers out of China - so I don't know why we are still really discussing them, because everyone says the same thing - China can't be trusted.

We also cannot truly trust independent reporters out of China either to a certain degree because of the over-hype factor, i.e. only reporting worst cases and worst case scenario because it drives clicks.

Basically, from following this thread, all I for sure know is China is worse off than their government is reporting, but I still have no idea how bad it truly is since we don't have reports coming from all parts of the country.

We also have speculation coming from experts who are not remotely near the situation. How many of them are working with estimated numbers?

Anyway, it seems clear to me, as far as those of us in the States are concerned, the real place to keep an eye on is the Western countries over the next week to week & a half.

Chinese raw numbers are bogus, but the rate of growth is likely true which may help us determine the mathematical model.

Apparently our speculation on this thread has made us crazier than the Q thread. Apparently they think we want the whole world to get sick. No.

What I want is to know what's going on and the likely hood of this sickness spreading. Unfortunately more than half the thread is speculation about what is really happening in China where this started, because they Chinese have never been honest with anyone outside of China.
