Here is confirmation of the 3rd patient with this coronavirus in the US. This one is in Orange County, California. Looks like another person with a travel history from Wuhan.

I heard it on a podcast. Doesn't mean it's accurate or 100% correct. Don't focus on the % number. It will change dramatically based on your interactions in the world.


Focus on the precautions you can take to limit your exposure and get prepared if you and your family do get sick.


This isn't airborne HIV or Ebola, it's a severe cold. It will suck if you get it but if your healthy, you should survive.

My problem with the official numbers continues to be confirmed. If there's only 1200 cases in Wuhan, it just so happens that the ones flying all over the world are part of that number?

This is also being accused (by a poster on this thread around page 3-7) of being a Soviet Cold War Weapon that was stolen and got out too... lots of speculation on origins.

The fact that it is contagious for up to two weeks with no symptoms is hugely problems. Makes it almost impossible to prevent spread.

I think this adds support to the a&m situation being a positive case and they're trying to trace the person's potential exposures over the last two weeks. Perhaps notifying people prior to a public announcement?

Interesting note. He's reporting Beijing is going to be under travel ban soon but the virus doesn't appear to be spreading as fast as initial reports calculated.

If infected areas of China could shut down for a month, it could stop the spread of the virus. The rest of the world needs to ban all travel from China until this situation stabilizes.

BTW - its the rate of spread that is the concern not the severity of the illness.

R0 is pronounced "R naught." It's a mathematical term that indicates how contagious an infectious disease is. It's also referred to as the reproduction number. As an infection spreads to new people, it reproduces itself. Under 1 the virus burns out naturally. Over 1 gives it legs to go exponential (going exponential is a bad thing....)

Isn't it already too late? Thousands had already traveled outside of quarantine zones prior to their declaration - and could have been contagious unbeknownst to them. Even the temperature screening checkpoints that have been set up may not have much value if you can be contagious but asymptomatic.

Yeah, beyond the challenge of believing any numbers out of china, any assumptions about mortality rate are premature.
