Most of my close family is far far away in a rural area.

I'm so, so sorry.
I'm also sorry that you have to get connections to do things in China.

Is the South China Morning Post reputable? I've been looking for an Asian based English Langauge news source (for getting some more info on this situation) and this seems to be the best option I've found.

It's Hong Kong based so hopefully it's not just another Communist Party mouthpiece.

You mentioned gas masks earlier, a good one covering full NBC protection is about $300 each. It's the only thing which I would say would be a 100% certainty of protection.

Other than that, decent, full face filter masks can go for around $50 and up.

They will generally over-hype / be anti-mainland biased, not AS badly but think BBC-esque.

That being said I don't remember if the CCP had a business purchase them sometime back.

There are a lot of full face filter masks for around $50 and up, but they're not made specifically for protection against pathogens.

Amazon has a bunch (both shipped from Amazon and the marketplace) and plenty of other sites will come up with a simple search.

Unfortunately no. The HK ones used to be pretty neutral until the recent pro-democracy stuff went down.
Maybe check the Taiwan one, it will be biased, but in the vein of "this is why we should declare independence" or downplaying it due to the desire to reunite as one China. Should be easy to spot the bias in those.

Also, one of the lessons to take away from this today:
There was a video posted back about several doctors/nurses having breakdowns and crying their eyes out. I think that also might happen in the US if such an outbreak was to occur but on a larger scale. In China doctors don't get paid much and generally are not the top earners unlike the US, but earn above average.

There's a difference between people who are in it for the money, and people who genuine love what they do...

Like my grandmother says. The job of medical professions is a risk trade off, if there is an outbreak you WILL be overworked. But that is a risk you must be willing to take alongside infection and death if you truly wish to be a doctor.

The people who treating people on that outbreak and manage to stay strong are real heroes. I cannot say the same with those who are desperately trying to get out.

Reading this is why I am glad I have the olds.

Depends on how good the US responds to this if cases are confirmed.
If we straight up lock down the ports and deny entry to anyone from China, and aggressively isolate anyone in proximity of the patients we should be fine.

Edit: That is assuming there is only two strains of the virus and it can't stay dormant in the environment for years.

So given our govt track record, we should all be dead within a couple months ?

If China can contain the outbreak, the US should be able to.
Hope we NEVER, EVER, have to cross this bridge.
I should mention the us has a very high healthcare provider/ patient ratio.
I should also mention at the same times I have seen doctors who are in it for the money and would run away the first sign this came up (in us and china).


If the federal government will not do it, states will do their jobs.
If the states wont do it, counties will do their jobs.
If counties won't do it, the people of the united states will due their duty with the 2A.

If I was a Chinese international student, I would be in reverence of American (western culture).

To put bluntly, the Chinese international students (Chinese in general imho) worships white people/culture to a degree because of the shock of the colonial era, they strive to become where the US is now without looking at the issues in the US .

A well read Chinese-American would realize that blindly copying with no regards for reasoning is dangerous, and that different cultures have different issues. Granted, they do have severity levels.

Still, the international student who holds the US in awe has bigger drive then our o-line.

To be honest, I am not sure it makes much of a difference. I am here to learn. Therefore, one must first lower themselves before those who teach.

It'll spread a little more slowly in the west because of much better sanitation habits.

Source unable to see videos. Is censored when posted by me or messaged. Video of doctor arguing is legitimate per multiple sources. People collapsing can be from many reasons. Hospital video of patients everywhere seems legit (I will check later tonight)?
