The average American spends 90% of their time indoors. The virus is spread via aerosol and surface contact. Meaning offices, schools, grocery stores, movie theaters, hospitals, nursing homes, airports, concerts, sporting events, buses, subways, trains etc. will be the places where it's contracted and spread.

It's not floating around the air outside.

With the R0 somewhere between 3 and 6 warm weather may only reduce the transmission to R0 2 (still above the pandemic level).

Does R0 as a measure of infectiousness factor in all of the potential issues related to how easily a disease is transmitted or does it just focus literally on technical issues about the virus itself?

To put it another way, a lot of sources keep saying that COVID-19 and SARS have a similar R0. This would make sense if all R0 was focused on was the actual bio-chemistry involved. But as I understand people with SARS were only contagious while once they showed symptoms, whereas COVID-19 can be spread by people showing little or now symptoms. Is there another metric that measure this aspect that I do't don't know? If not, then can we correctly assume that the actual R0 for COVID-19 has to be higher than that of SARS (even if they have similar survivability outside the human body), simply because it is more likely to expose more people unknowingly.

I'd get on a plane to London right now, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Rome, Munich, Paris, and quite a few other places. Might have to re-evaluate in another week or two.

Viruses spread easier in the winter because

1. They are denatured or "killed" by heat and radiation
2. They travel further when the air has low humidity

People living inside may affect how much heat and radiation the virus is exposed to, but the air will be more humid than winter

I remember flying all over the place when SARS was out. Had no idea until someone told me a month later why everybody was wearing masks.

Also lower crowds. But you have to weigh that against the risk of attractions being closed and the possibility of being stranded or quarantined somewhere.

R0 is based on how easily it spreads in a given environment. A given disease may have a higher R0 value in one country over another based on hygiene and customs (hand washing, public spitting, etc)
