70 confirmed cases in Sacramento now?
Tell them they're illegals. That will make it all better.

It's weird that the number 70 does not appear in the article, the article says "30-50".

And the article closes with this: "As of Feb. 21, the CDC had only confirmed 35 cases of coronavirus in the U.S., with California's confirmed total at 15."

So 70 is clickbait.

Thanks for posting those numbers and charts, PJ. The explosion of cases in S Korea and Italy is worrisome.

And, even though the CDC and our government have done a great job so far, I wonder if they are agile enough to react quickly enough to new developments. I realize that there's a lot more to screening passengers and blocking flights than simply the virus (i.e., economic and political relations), but it seems that we ought to be treating S Korea, Iran, Italy, and possibly Japan just like we do China in terms of travel. Perhaps we are, but I've missed the announcements if so.
The answer is no, once the pandemic starts coming from so many directions, there is no way even a best-case well-run CDC/US government can contain it from spreading here. The goal will at a certain point have to shift to managing treatment strategies/priorities and supplies (in addition to vaccine work). Ideally, this point isn't reached until the summer heat kicks in.

I think the spread in South Korea, Europe, and Africa functionally makes containment impossible at this point (meaning; contained substantially to regions within China). The private jet surge is old news now, but indicative of a 'wealthy class' that has likely taken the virus with them to many 'vacation' spots as well.

That may be an attempt by the Chinese to blame the virus on some other country, like you-know-who.

I agree.

Glad they are getting away from the seafood market story...what a load of chum!

Anyway, my expert (around pages 30-40?...) said that they had the DNA sequence and new exactly where it came from.

I knew he was full of crap, didn't want to admit the possibility that people in his field are playing around with this Crap.

Lol That's why I haven't talked to him about it...everything he has said has tuned out to be false.

China will contain...

The flu is worse...

China has it under control...

Hillary will win the election...I should have known right there. Lol.

WTF is going on in N Korea? They have no infrastructure to help the every day person and don't give a **** either.

Only thing they have to help is severe travel restrictions as an every day fact of life.

The FED wants to let this bleed off a bit. Needed to relive some pressure from the bubble. They won't let it crash, but they won't pump it to green today. It will be a battle of the negative and positive headlines this week. Look for 3 red days and 2 green days this week.

Once the FED commits to emergency interest rate cuts and overt QE (along with tax cuts for the common man) that's when you know they've moved all-in to save the system.

Red Cross Granted Exemption From UN Sanctions to Help North Korea

Quote:

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has received an exemption from international sanctions from the UN, an official told NK News on Monday, allowing the organization to ship vital equipment needed in the fight against coronavirus to North Korea.
The exemption request was submitted last Tuesday and approved on Friday, Richard Blewitt, who serves as permanent observer to the UN for the IFRC, said, describing it as "a quick turn around."
All of the shipments will be made by air, a letter confirming the exemption showed, and will also see the IFRC provide, among other items, one RT-PCR diagnostic machine, 10,000 test kits (RT-PCR reagents), 10,000 pairs of examination gloves of different sizes, 4000 surgical masks, and 200 medical gowns.
No cases reported in North Korea, though.

Gilead's may be effective

Quote:

Shares of Gilead Sciences (GILD) - Get Report were rising after the World Health Organization said the drugmaker's antiviral remdesivir may be effective against the coronavirus.
The comments, which were reported by CNBC, came in a press conference at which the organization lauded the Chinese government for the measures it took to stem the spread of the virus. When identifying any drugs that could potentially combat the disease, WHO named the drug from Gilead Sciences.
Remdesivir is an investigational antiviral that hasn't yet been approved anywhere globally for any use.
However, Gilead Sciences has been working with global health officials in responding to the coronavirus outbreak and officials have been experimenting with remdesivir. Numerous health organizations have participated in the trials including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Health and Human Services, National Institute of Allergies and Infection Diseases, Department of Defense, the China CDC and the World Health Organization.

Taiwan is also trying to manufacture the drug, after successfully synthesizing it.

It's good news but one patient doesn't make a study.

We are going to see a **** ton of good news and bad news headlines this week. The battle to control the narrative is on in full force.

I'd love to see this all go away and everything go back to normal BUT let's be realistic, there is a highly infectious virus on the loose throughout the globe. The only real way of controlling the spread is to quarantine large populations.

Right now, govts are trying to buy time to get ready for this and hopefully come up with a solution before economic realities and panic set in.

Maybe.

It was used but they have no proof if it was the vaccine or he just got better. That's why trials are needed.

Also some SARS vaccines have shown to INCREASE mortality rate if you get reinfected, and since the new virus is similar to SARS. Best to be careful.

That is an anti-viral, not a vaccine. Still risk but different mechanisms we're talking about.

By the way, know someone involved in treating patients out west. He said the U.S. is using the Gilead drug to treat everyone that's tested positive. Said it hasn't helped everyone (some have improved, some are maintaining level of sickness), but that's the fed playbook for now.
