Senate just announced there is Corona Virus briefing for all senators in the morning at 1030!
How dare they interrupt the holy and sacred impeachment proceedings for a trivial matter!

It already is. Your own campus.yukmonkey said:
Lots of media downplaying the virus as some far off issue.
Mother****ers this could be in your backyard with one plane flight.

Could be in your backyard? Don't kid yourself. They are already here. 70000 students come to colleges and universities in the US each year. Some of them went home over the holidays. And they came back here for school before the lockdown happened. Just like the student here. He won't be the only one. And if they are sick they will be scared to go to the doctor.
Flip the script for a second. If our government was shutting down that many different cities one after another as fast as China is doing, would it be assumed to not be a very serious matter? That is what concerns. China is not so backwards that its reactions are going to be so hugely different in response.mathguy86 said:
So if my count is right that's 7 cities and roughly 25 MM people. That is roughly equivalent to quarantining the population of Texas. That's insane.

The good news is that the mortality of this only appears to be around 2-3%, which is still scary if a major outbreak occurs but compared to MERS (35% mortality) and SARS (15%) it's not nearly as virulent.
Based on the actions of the Chinese government I expect this mortality rate to climb significantly in the next 7-10 days.Infection_Ag11 said:

But until cases show up in D.C., NYC, etc., the coastal media elites won't care.
Hell, they pulled a passenger off a plane at LAX today who came from China (Wuhan) who had the fever. The kicker, they tried to get around the increased scrutiny by flying through Mexico City and then up to LAX.
Thank God whoever on our end still caught them, but damn - Mexico City is a huge airport and there's so many people they could have encountered just while changing planes.
I agree completely but based on the history of China with the SARS pandemic I am skeptical about the accuracy of the current data at face value especially since they have put 29million citizens in lockdown.Infection_Ag11 said:KidDoc said:Based on the actions of the Chinese government I expect this mortality rate to climb significantly in the next 7-10 days.Infection_Ag11 said:

Maybe, but all we can go on is the data we have.

You really think China is using its military to cut off travel to cities with a combined population of 29 million over 25 deaths (0.00000862%)? Come on man...Infection_Ag11 said:KidDoc said:Based on the actions of the Chinese government I expect this mortality rate to climb significantly in the next 7-10 days.Infection_Ag11 said:

Novel meaning something other than just `new' strain of coronavirus?Infection_Ag11 said:AG 2000' said:You really think China is using its military to cut off travel to cities with a combined population of 29 million over 25 deaths (0.00000862%)? It's a novel virus. That's incredibly scary to anyone who understands what that means.
