Yeah it's two charges: disorderly conduct and filing a false police report. I suppose if the letter turns into anything there could be a federal charge as well at some point.

Disorderly conduct is down charge resulting from a plea deal. Prosecutors rarely charge down in the first charge unless they have a deal in place.

Guys, in Illinois filing a false police report falls under disorderly conduct. It can be a misdemeanor or a felony. Smollett has been charged with the felony version.

Yup, precedent is clear on that one and they have the magazine where the letters were cut out and either he paid the Nigerians to mail it to him or I hope he put it together at their apartment and mailed it himself. Remember he testified he wore gloves to open it (which was suspicious) but could backfire on him gloriously if they find his fingerprints or DNA on the letter.

I am sure CPD is holding information. If Jussie continues to be uncooperative and indignant then they will really drop the hammer.

The Federal charges are another matter. Postal inspectors have the goods on him. I am not a lawyer but is there a possibility of wire fraud if he used money transfers to pay the Nigerians?
