An article I read this morning said they have subpoenaed his phone records too.
I thought they already got the phone records. This should provide the jury damning evidence this was all a hoax as there would be no other reason to redact those calls.

but I think it was just like most people seem to believe, and that is just that he was overcome with hatred for Trump and frustrated that the actual levels of hate and crime against minorities and gays doesn't match up with his hatred level, so he decided to take matters into his own hands.
they may not have put him up to it but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that someone like Harris knew about it and thus knew it was a hoax all along.
