I could take a stab at what's going on in his head if you're all interested, since it seems to be a topic.
So I learned this through a psychologist that specializes in gay studies in Dallas. He's taught me quite a bit.
When you're young and in a conservative family, you quickly learn to hide behaviors that may be deemed as different or stereotypically gay. As you progress in the closet, you continue to lie to cover up your true identity.
When you come out, it feel good but there's basically two paths a gay man will go towards
2/3 of gay men come out and are ashamed of lying to their loved ones, and live a very honest life as a result. This results in just generally truthful people or, to an extreme, the "I tell it like it is" gay.
1/3 Have lower character or their abuse was very heavy, and even though they are out, they begin lying about almost everything in order to benefit and further themselves in life. The lying is pathological. These men typically don't last long in a city, bc they burn bridges quickly in a small gay community and move on to the next.
Jussie is definitely the pathological liar type. He's so used to lying and he doesn't feel guilty for it. Coming from the black community where homophobia is very rampant, he probably lies bc in his mind it survival.
He lacks character and continues to lie bc he's done it his entire life. He will never change bc he doesn't have the character to. In his mind, he may be upset that people even dare to uestion this elaborate lie.
You may be generally right and I'm not disagreeing your general points, but specifically to Smollett I believe other things are on the forefront., I think his life long career of being an actor and the privilege that comes with being talented (except for hoaxes of course), famous, politically connected and rich all place him in a bubble that allowed him to believe he could and should do this. It's still his fault but child actors make for ****ty adults and that probably plays much more of a role than being gay imo.
