You may be generally right and I'm not disagreeing your general points, but specifically to Smollett I believe other things are on the forefront., I think his life long career of being an actor and the privilege that comes with being talented (except for hoaxes of course), famous, politically connected and rich all place him in a bubble that allowed him to believe he could and should do this. It's still his fault but child actors make for ****ty adults and that probably plays much more of a role than being gay imo.

THIS - it was much more of a self importance thing I think. One he felt he could boost his career, two with the political friends he had and the visible nature of his demonstrations against Trump he felt completely justified in doing it, and three he was so pompous in thinking he was untouchable. It's 80% narcissism and 20% being gay/actor and having the ability to lie.

Think about if this hoax had worked. Jussie would have been thrust to the forefront of progressive politics and activism. He would have made the rounds on all of the MSM talks shows. All of his Hollywood friends would shower him with sympathy. Actually all of that did happen. He would become an authority on hate crimes, maybe the next Al Sharpton.
