This continues to be the biggest lie politicians peddle. This remedial thought that there is this linear correlation between tax rates and tax receipts.

As if a rate of 10% actually returns receipts of roughly ten percent of yearly GDP. Or that a rate twice that, thus returns twice the receipts in taxes, etc. It's lazy. It's stupid. And it won't die. A quick review of tax revenue as a percentage of GDP decade over decade clearly illustrates that regardless of what marginal rates are, revenue still hovers in the high teens (around 18%).

Cuts through the other equally idiotic line of cuts "paying for themselves"
