Let me say it again. Schumer is calling the shots. Blowsie is a pawn. He wants to damage republican senators and they must ask the questions for that to happen.
I think it has more to do with an experienced person will know exactly what to ask and will spot holes and know the correct follow up questions to pick the inconsistencies apart.

If the Republicans manage to pick up a handful of Dem votes my guess is that the DNC saw the writing on the wall and realized the Republicans had a lock on confirmation and gave a few Dem Senators permission to go off reservation.
