Reading the responses to the AP tweet, it has seemingly become cool on social media to tell your personal rape story. I think it is healthy direction as a people, but it sure brings out the skeptic in me seeing all of the attention it garners the alleged victim on social media.

No question that #metoo morphed into this crazy form of a cool kids club.

This is straight out of the DNC playbook. In any situation like this the females on the left come up with stories about how they were sexually harassed or sexually assaulted. They make the discussion highly personal and highly emotional which they know will, most likely, stifle in further discussion. After all if you disagree with them after they tell their tale you're nothing but an uncaring pig.

I...I was working CARPOOL at Harry's one night during a CCR concert. As I was walking around, my ass was grabbed by 3 different women. I never told anybody, but it has sat with me for 15 years and has made it very uncomfortable for me to walk in large crowds of women. I demand those 3 women be fired from their jobs!
I'm irrationally angry you got to see CCR live....

And probably 99% of those "stories" being posted as replies are fake. Making yourself out to be a victim is the ultimate virtue signaling for liberals.

What you're missing is that anything Trump does will be seen as negative by the media. If he tweets, no matter what it is, they'll jump on it and turn it into a negative and say he's attacking victims. If he doesn't do anything, they'll say his silence shows how much he doesn't care. That's why I really DGAF about his tweets nor do I worry about what the media says about them.

Eh, they were pretty good back in the day when the Texas/Red Dirt scene took off. Chilifest in '04 was Jason Boland, CCR, Pat Green, Sammy Kershaw, and George Jones.

He did give the media fodder with the tweets but it shouldn't matter. Just look at this headline already from the AP. Trump "blasts accuser by name"...GTFO.

On a side note:

For those who still defend services like the AP and Reuters as being non-partisan, here is another example. Words matter.

"blasts accuser by name"

Neutral options would be "Trump weights in on accusations" or "Trump questions accusations"

Given i posted "Any response by Trump will be panned", I'd say I'm not missing it at all. Simply talking about not letting this swing toward an unreported assault debate where the ground is more shaky. This is a crackpot with a ridiculous claim. People see that it is ridiculous. Even gd Feinstein knows it is. No need to deviate at all from it.

Instead of keeping his mouth shut and letting the story play out (a strategy that was actually working pretty well for republicans) he blows the whole thing up. Expect wall to wall coverage all weekend with experts and rape victims explaining why most rapes go unreported.

This was a really dumb move by trump.
I wish I had a nickle for every time someone claimed "Oh!!! Trump ****ed up bigly this time!!! He's DOOOOOOOMED!!!", only for his approach to work...

Again, the political paradigm has experienced a historical shift, and all assumptions about political correctness should be thrown into the garbage...

It's not about political correctness, it's about strategy. He has given the media an excuse to turn the story away from Ford and onto rape victims in general.

I think most people are skeptical of Ford because of the timing of the allegations and the lack of evidence. Rape victims in general though are about the most sympathetic people you could put on tv. Trump has now picked a fight with that group.
Ford is not a victim of rape even if her accusations are true. The term rape has been used to describe numerous things which do not meet the legal definition of rape.

This is why the left claims the majority of women are raped in college, and we have a "rape culture" on college campuses. They now define nearly anything as rape, even a drunk on a dance floor playing grab ass.
Gee, amercer lies and calls it "rape?" No way! Bet you can check back on his Roy Moore posts and he called Moore a pedophile or a child molester.

Didn't mean to cause such a stir/derail with my post. Cross Canadian Ragweed = good. Credence Clearwater Revival = legendary.

Now back to my thesis: Trump tweeted to make this whole farce about him to give cover to (R) senators to ignore Ford's crazy demands, ignore the NY Times call to impeach, and just have a vote.

Couldn't drink when working CARPOOL. Did take advantage of the $1 chuggers at The Hall a time or two. Got sexually assaulted there as well...also in the back of a 2-door 3-series in the dirt lot behind it.

Yep. They'll be in a frenzy all day and probably weekend about Trump while Grassley tells her lawyer to shove her demands and be there on Monday.

From the EPPC website:

Quote:

Mr. Whelan, a lawyer and a former law clerk to Justice Scalia, has served in positions of responsibility in all three branches of the federal government. From just before the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, until joining EPPC in 2004, Mr. Whelan was the Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel in the U.S. Department of Justice. In that capacity, he advised the White House Counsel's Office, the Attorney General and other senior DOJ officials, and departments and agencies throughout the executive branch on difficult and sensitive legal questions. Mr. Whelan previously served on Capitol Hill as General Counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary. In addition to clerking for Justice Scalia, he was a law clerk to Judge J. Clifford Wallace of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Either the tweets and the walk-back were a pre-planned strategy, or he was drunk last night.

My gut is telling me it's the former.
