Agreed. But he should not have tweeted that.

Unsure if it will change anything, but it makes him sound uncaring about the accuser/victim. IMO.
What!!!???

**** that *****. Even if he actually did what she says, which every single person on earth knows is not the case, **** that *****.

Too ****ing bad, you dumbass *****. If someone commits a crime against you, the simple fact that you waited 36 years until politics were the issue to talk about it makes *you* the ****ing slimeball criminal, not the accused.

Why are we even talking about this? True or not, totally irrelevant.

Its not about playing well with the electorate. Its about playing well with the people that vote on Collins and Murkowski. They need cover to vote for Kavanaugh. Grassley was in the process of doing this. Trump wading in at this point throws a cog into the process that is unnecessary. This process is about getting another conservative on the court. Trump has ample opportunity to placate the electorate without getting involved here.

Agree about the cover needed for Collins and Murkowski. However, Grassley's path has led us to the point where the accuser now has the cards. Grassley stated that he would work with the accuser to get her to testify. She and her lawyers have leapt on that and have made outrageous demands for a hearing. If Grassley refuses to give in then the media/twitter will say evil republicans have silenced the sexual assault victims. That won't help cover for Collins or Murkowski.

I think Grassley can easily stand up to their demands. Their demand is against a fundamental principle of justice that this country was founded upon. You call that out when you refuse.

Collins is the only one who has to worry about voters back home as Maine is a Democrat leaning state.

Alaska is solidly Republican, but Murkowski is not.

Instead of keeping his mouth shut and letting the story play out (a strategy that was actually working pretty well for republicans) he blows the whole thing up. Expect wall to wall coverage all weekend with experts and rape victims explaining why most rapes go unreported.

This was a really dumb move by trump.
I wish I had a nickle for every time someone claimed "Oh!!! Trump ****ed up bigly this time!!! He's DOOOOOOOMED!!!", only for his approach to work...

Again, the political paradigm has experienced a historical shift, and all assumptions about political correctness should be thrown into the garbage...

It's not about political correctness, it's about strategy. He has given the media an excuse to turn the story away from Ford and onto rape victims in general.

I think most people are skeptical of Ford because of the timing of the allegations and the lack of evidence. Rape victims in general though are about the most sympathetic people you could put on tv. Trump has now picked a fight with that group.
Ford is not a victim of rape even if her accusations are true. The term rape has been used to describe numerous things which do not meet the legal definition of rape.

This is why the left claims the majority of women are raped in college, and we have a "rape culture" on college campuses. They now define nearly anything as rape, even a drunk on a dance floor playing grab ass.

It's the only play in Trump's playbook. After more than three years of him in the public eye, I'm completely used to it but consistently shocked at how effective it is. It's like the media just can't look away.

And the Simpsons did it:

The press is so predictable. I wish more people would take that guy who ran in Montana's lead and "body slam" more reporters.
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

They clearly had everything written ahead of time because of the speed full articles were put out. They just had to insert a few quick things and hit publish.

It's not so much about political correctness. It's just not being dumb about how you back your guy by making the basis of your tweet on a false assumption.

"I support Brett Kavanaugh. He's a man of upstanding character, as witnessed by a long list of people who have come out in support of him. I do not believe this accusation against him has any merit whatsoever. The US Senate needs to move forward with confirming him."

That's how you back your guy, shoot down her claim, and push the Senate to do the right thing.

Grassley needs to sit down with Collins, Flake, Corker, etc. and if they are set to proceed as scheduled and support not capitulating, then move this forward ASAP. More delays is just going to cause more ruckus by our disingenuous media.

Grassley thus far has done what was necessary. That is he offered the accuser the opportunity to testify before the committee. If she comes back with a list of stupid demands, which is exactly what she did, Grassley can say no, show up on Monday or we vote. The R's can play the "we wanted to hear her story but she refused" card which is small but most likely gives the fence sitters what they need. It was all fairly straight forward and simple. Now you can bet the phones and emails of the fence sitters are blowing up because of the tweets. It might not matter in the slightest but why, at this point, do you even risk it?

The proper response to this dumbass ***** by our congress would have been to say:

'you know, this confirmation stuff is expensive, and someone always seems to pop up with decades old unsubstantiated garbage that wastes everyone's time. Its insulting to think that we would be dumb enough to waste time on 36 year old allegations about drunk high school kids groping at a party, but since some of us are, its time to enact a statute of limitations on 'new' complaints about candidates' character. Let's call it 5 years, which happens to be the criminal statute of limitations in many states for complaints of this kind. Now escort this ***** out the door please"

It is so sad to me how far feminism has regressed. In the late 60s, 70s and 80s, it was about equal rights and opportunities. Give us the chance to work and prove ourselves to be capable and competent in the work place and in the home.

Now, it has devolved into one set of standards for women (REEEEEEEEE! Sky screamer) and other standards for men. (REEEEEE! YOU CAN"T TOUCH ME! YOU CAN'T BE ALLOWED IN THE SAME ROOM WITH ME! I'M AFRAID!!!!!!!)

Get a backbone, Buttercup. You have made an accusation. Either follow up on it or recant.

Reading the responses to the AP tweet, it has seemingly become cool on social media to tell your personal rape story. I think it is healthy direction as a people, but it sure brings out the skeptic in me seeing all of the attention it garners the alleged victim on social media.

No question that any response by Trump will be panned. But your response is all the same hysteria we've seen all week that most normal folks are dismissing. I'm simply saying don't leave them any legit angle like turning this into a debate over unreported assaults vs it staying centered on this crackpot lady.
