I'm slow, I read it as 1968,

If this is true, they need to proceed with the vote as planned.Quote:
So for now Feinstein is refusing to work with Grassley to set up follow up calls with Kavanaugh and Ford.

It's all a setup to cover for stalling. They seem inordinately desperate right now. What are they trying to cover up themselves? They won't be able to block Trump most likely even after November the way things are stacking up.
I tend to agree with this. I'm not sure ... this may really backfire on the Democrats ...FriscoKid said:
If republicans cram the vote through then democrats will have their campaign issue that they can get the base energized behind.
I'm OK playing the long game here. This will piss off republican voters if they let the libs delay this vote.

That's not to say that Democrats have no chance of using Ford's allegation to defeat Judge Kavanaugh. But the odds of falling flat on their face are greater.
Quote:
Under this scenario, Judge Kavanaugh's nomination would be withdrawn before the month is out. President Trump would respond by quickly picking another nominee from the already vetted short list he compiled in July. No one on that list is more ideologically acceptable to Democrats than Kavanaugh, so they would have no reason to cheer the switch.
Even if Democrats overcome the odds and retake the Senate, the outgoing GOP majority would still have three months to confirm the new nominee. Senators wouldn't even have to cut their pre-election recess short to get the job done.
I think it's more likely if you let the dems "win" this game...blindey said:
Here's a crazy flier of an idea:

Bear with me on this post. The CIA is broadcasting the Quantico cafeteria menu directly into my brain via the fillings in my teeth, so its a bit tough to type this out.
What if internals are showing a strong likelihood of a midterm pickup in the Senate? This is possible because of how many vulnerable democrats are on the ballot.
So they let hearings proceed. Election happens, Rs pick up seats, no longer have a need to appease the Collins types. Trump responds by saying, "you know what, the Democrats shameful actions in the Kavenaugh confirmation process have tainted him as a potential supreme court justice, so his nomination is withdrawn." And then nominate someone much more openly to the right.

Real story? I think you just confirm the guy. If Feinstien believed that this loon was credible, she would have raised it at one of several opportunities to do so.
At best (or worst) she kept it in her back pocket in the event that Kavenaugh did not slip up during confirmation and it looked like there was nothing else that could be done.

I don't think they want to set this precedentTater Salad said:
How long before Judiciary Committee Dems demand Judge Kavanaugh submit to a lie detector polygraph?
Or dare they?
Because the "victim" would have to take another one too. They don't want that.Tater Salad said:

What they really want is to hook up electrodes to him that will shock him in the nuts every time he answers one of their silly questions in a way that makes them look petty.Tater Salad said:

They always are terrified of being called racist, sexist, bigoted, etc. by the media and Democrats.Beaux12 said:

You're right; nobody but the three involved know for sure what happened or if anything happened.ccaggie05 said:
I have no clue if this story is true but the timing sure is suspect. It speaks volumes that Feinstein sat on this for months and only now, on the eve of a vote, decides to move forward. That shows that she cares more about politics than if a sexual assault occurred or not.
I also find it kind of gross how everybody is so quick to jump on this side acting as they know without a shadow of a doubt what the truth is. The left is convinced that Kavanaugh is an attempted rapist. The right is convinced it's all lies and the accuser is a lying sack of **** that deserves whatever abuse that comes to her. The reality is, nobody knows a damn thing and people don't care about the truth, they just care that their "team" wins the fight.
This whole nomination process has been a disgrace, so much so that even RBG has said so. Hell modern day politics is a disgrace.
I think we've seen enough mobs and reaction to them to be rightly concerned with #metoo stuff gets tossed around. Someone might want to check with Chris Hardwick to see how fun his summer was. He ended up with a lot of free time on his hands (not by his choosing) thanks to completely unfounded accusations. A career hung in the balance.Beaux12 said:
